If you are adding plants that do not need a large pot, you could try hanging them so that that nothing rests on the bottom (or at least nothing big). Then it will be a lot easier to clean the bottom. Some members on here have creatively hung their plant pots in this way.

I have never made one myself yet but many of the DIY feeders that I have seen in here make the bottom with mesh. Perhaps so that any water from misters or misting will not collect in the bottom. But since you have a hook on your feeder, you can easily take it out to empty any water built up or...
