    Is my Jackson gravid

My jacksons is gravid now too. I know its a guessing game. I was just given an old aquarium, and I bought a butterfly cage on Amazon. Not sure which to go woth at first, but I figure this will hold them for a bit before I get a screened cage for them. How are your babies doing? I never checked...

A Few Questions About Breeding Mantids

They're super tiny... like fruit fly size when they hatch. Both males and females are cannibals. Theres no age when they stop. It's more a matter for resources - space and food. As with mating them, if you can manage to keep them fed, they *USUALLY* will refrain from eating each other. The...

    Stick insect care/feeding?

Butterfly cages are used ONLY if your food doesn't have thorns; so all my cages are aluminum screen cages. CHEERS! Nick

    Baby chameleon enclosures

You can get recent sized butterfly cages for $14. Should work for splitting them into small groups and gives nice airflow. https://www.amazon.com/Trasfit-Collapsible-Butterfly-Terrarium-Zip-Open/dp/B0753CDTLX/ref=sr_1_26?ie=UTF8&qid=1524619543&sr=8-26&keywords=Butterfly+cage

...one, emphasis on the urates part. Your not going to see her drink or eat for a while due to the stress of the move. Buy a pop up butterfly cage($15) to use as a temp viv until she is big enough to move to a full size viv(3-4mo). You’ve got to get her out of that plastic tank ASAP. It will...

(Soon to be) New Chameleon Keeper

Hello, chameleon community! I just wanted to introduce myself as I look forward to being more active in these forums. I just purchased a male panther chameleon which will be ready to come home in April/May. In the meantime, I’m preparing for his arrival so everything is ready when he gets here...

    Hornworm pupae

Hi! I acquired a hornworm in the pupal stage, and have some huge ones getting ready to pupate. Does anyone know if I should tape the cocoon up on the top of their cage (like a butterfly), or just lay it on the bottom on top of soil? Also, would peat moss be acceptable? Thanks!

To answer some of your questions -- Lights: 1. IMO there seems to be a lot of research and discussion put into UVB lighting, but very little as it relates to basking lamps. The impression I get is if the lamp and bulb get the temperatures you're looking for, then that lamp is as good as any...

    Stick insect care/feeding?

You need a minimum height of 2x the length of the bug. Everyone recommends going 3x to be on the safe side. If their molt is messed up, they often die. A 36" tall butterfly cage will work. Full throttle uses a 12x18x30.

(Soon to be) New Chameleon Keeper

In response to #3, I used petstore feeders for a couple of years and always had problems, especially with crickets, not last very long. They don't gutload them very well with as cheap a means as they can. I started buying 1,000 at a time from Josh Frogs and pay for overnight delivery. I keep...

(Soon to be) New Chameleon Keeper

Thank you so much for answering my questions (I was hoping at least one of the more experienced keepers in the forums would take a shot). I’ve seen the video you linked, as well as all of your others, while researching and found them to be straightforward and informative. I actually purchased...

    Jackson's born

Definetly get them away from Mom as fast as you can. She will most likely eat them. Care for them is a cage that can be a butterfly keeper or a screen cage. You will need flightless fruit flys, and pinhead crickets (small) or very tiny dubias. They need to be misted often an automatic mister...

Can an 11 month old eat a hawk moth?

How did I come to be hatching hawk moths in my kitchen? It wasn't intentional, really; I had too many hornworms and decided to do an experiment. So I did some research and winged some parts... Here's what I did: I think I was inspired by having them NOT fly all over or throw dirt or spray...

    Feeding butterflies to chameleon?

So I actually just tried feeding off butterflies that I had purchased for this purpose. I went on Amazon and bought a cup of painted lady caterpillars, and they came in their own cup of food. I raised them up, they cocooned, and then turned into butterflies in an old cham cage I had on the...
