    Thrips and maybe fungus gnats

every spring I have an ootheca in every enclosure 👍 the survivors that my chams dont eat make it to round 2 in my planters outside. I love mantids almost as much as chameleons so it warms my heart to see one reach maturity and hanging out in my garden. I name them Rambo cause they've cleared...

    Gnat Problem

The cinnamon will kill the fungus the gnats eat. I keep the cinnamon on the top of the soil until I’m able to repot with new soil. If you can’t move the plant out of the misters spray. I would try pointing the nozzle in a different direction. Amazon has mistaking nozzles that come with elbows...

    Soil & Gnats

So from some of my research I have found that a hydrogen peroxide solution can be sprayed on the soil of plants to kill eggs and gnats. Is this something that I can/should do? Either before I repot them in good soil or keep them in the current stuff? I would think that in theory it would be fine...

    Soil & Gnats

Thanks for the advise @MissSkittles and @Klyde O'Scope! my plan is to get that soil along with some river rock and sand and do what that post I linked to said, in addition to making or buying a cham safe gnat trap and hopefully that’ll do the trick!

Cinnamon on plants - yes or no?

I shouldn’t worry about the cinnamon getting into his respiratory system?

    Little black bugs everywhere

Could be overwatering, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes they’re just there. I wiped out an infestation in my reptile room so bad you had to keep your mouth closed or they’d fly in🤮 and I did it with a few drosera capensis sundews. Many fungus gnats are instantly attracted to them. They...

    Gnat-eaters

Anyone with a gnat problem (but not with a veiled) can consider these-Mexican butterworts. I went into garage and pulled a few from under the lights to make a temporary centerpiece. Even if not in the enclosure, if they are in the room they will attract and trap them. The second pic is a type of...

Got gnats? Katchy’s on sale Black Friday

Between cinnamon in the top layer of pots (covered with river pebbles to keep chameleons out), a couple/few Sundews (Drosera capensis), and yellow glue traps (cheap!), we don't have any more fungus gnats. We also watch watering.

    New Chameleon Questions

Hey!! I typed like half of a reply back and my phone died the other day. So, she has been eating more. I have just been putting crickets in the full throttle and she seems to walk by and grab one or two at a time!! She never just sits in front of it and eats a ton of them though….but I’m happy...

Would sticky traps be safe to use? Like ones that you stick in the soil?

Got gnats? Katchy’s on sale Black Friday

...cham enclosures plus 1 that isn’t and lots of extra plants all in the same room with 2 Katchy’s. While they do catch a fair number of soil gnats, they can’t catch them all. I just ordered some mantis ooths which when they hatch I’ll be putting in my enclosures. Last year when I did this it...

    Soil & Gnats

Another idea is to get a bag or 2 of ABG mix (Atlanta Botanical Garden) and mix it with the soil in your plants' pots. I do that because it's quick-draining and really helps with the gnats. Buy a Katchy as well, which was mentioned - they work very efficiently. I have mine set up on a little...

Got gnats? Katchy’s on sale Black Friday

second the mantids. My guys get so excited when they hatch! They do a good job of knocking out soil gnats and white flies, and even each other after a few days! Its also the season to find ooths on rhe bare branches and tall grass. They (Ooths) can be refrigerated for several months.

    Gnat Problem

You can get a sundew for around the enclosure if you can find them. Or a katchy. Reduce the access to soil using rocks or something to cover that your Cham cannot eat. Reduce the water output without allowing humidity to tank You can look into springtails isopods and nematodes perhaps even...

    Mantis!!!

As a fun treat for your chameleon and great way to eliminate any soil gnats, you can get an ooth and let it hatch in your enclosure.

    Soil & Gnats

This is what I’ve been using most recently. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Miracle-Gro-Performance-Organics-All-Purpose-In-Ground-Soil-1-3-cu-ft-Organic-Garden-Soil/1000663915 I had tried Fox Farms Ocean soil (had to order off Amazon) and was disappointed to find it had bits of pumice or something...

    Little black bugs everywhere

Ahhh mantis ooths, another good one that I forgot about. Drosera capensis would be the species to get and IME they’re very easy provided the right care. Mine even spread like grass and kept flowering. Don’t keep them in the enclosure, they need to sit in a tray of water(think a bog). Their...
