    fungas gnats

I've used 2 solutions with pretty good results. First, I buy ABG mix (Atlanta Botanical Gardens), and mix that with my potting soil in my plants. It helps to drain the soil, so not as many gnats grow. Secondly, I bought a Katchy on Amazon, and set it up in my chameleon room. It does an...

    Exotic plants safe??

...lights and misters, planted in sphagnum on a thick branch. They loved eating up all the extra millipedes, gnats, and other critters from my bioactive substrate as well. I liked having sundews sitting outside of the cage to eliminate any soil gnats that popped up. They do an amazing job at...

    Please help if possible!

TY! I feel like it was definitely a stressor for mine as there was a whole swarm inside her enclosure 😭 I pulled some plants out of there and spritz the roots with hydrogen peroxide to prevent further rotting , rinsed, repotted & just left them outside for now in the meantime until I get the...

    Soil & Gnats

A bowl or cup with sugar water and vinegar will draw and drown the gnats… Cinnamon on the top of the soil will kill the fungus feeding the gnats

AVOID in ground soil - a better alternative to use for your plants!

Hey everyone! I don't know about you all, but for the longest time I had the WORST luck with my plants and soil. I originally started using Miracle gro's organic in ground soil, but quickly noticed that the soil in my enclosure's plants was becoming foul, stunk like a swamp, and almost...

Humidifier doing anything? Should I get a bigger one

Repotting the plant as soon as you bring it home helps with the gnats. The soil it comes in from the store is definitely filled with eggs. Also, a good plant grow light is needed to ensure longevity for a lot of plants. However, I do not have a grow light (yet) but my 2 pothos don't seem to mind...

    Gnat Problem

Ok, so after the gnats are gone, can the isopods stay in there or change the soil to get them out? Sorry for all the questions. I researched a lot about keeping a chameleon, but not so much about botany lol

    Thrips and maybe fungus gnats

Can't offer any advice on the mites However I can share what has worked for me.... I've got a out a dozen or so plants in the enclosure and I've definitely had my battles with pests I normally do a mantis ooth (seasonal items so when I can get my hands on them) when the gnats get out of...

    New Chameleon Questions

...schedule and plant light will make the difference so the plants are all new to me lol plus now I’m getting a few gnats in there. Ugh! Soil gnats! We all struggle with them at some point. Don’t overwater the plants - let the top of the soil dry out a bit. How do you feel about fogging at night...

    Gnat Problem

I've heard about using cinnamon. Would I just keep it on the soil until the gnats are gone? And then change out the soil? Or keep it to avoid more gnats? So for plants near the misting nozzle, how would I prevent those plants from getting too wet? I already use rocks to cover the soil. Will...

    Lay cage?

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? Vailed female 4-5 months. I got her February 1 from a local pet store. A local cham breeder who bought her siblings said she was about 2 months max when we got them. Handling - How often do you...

Little bugs in my panthers bioactive enclosure. Help!

I have no idea. @jamest0o0 is our Bug Lord and he may be able to better guide you. Mantids are fierce little hunters and the babies are great for eliminating small pests like soil gnats and their larvae.

    Little black bugs everywhere

This is the exact one that ruined my life. It infested every single one of NOT ONLY my chameleon plants, but my houseplant collection of 30+ plants. Bane of my existence. I would highly suggest making the soil that I detailed in my previous message. It will save you from a lot of pain with...

    Veiled Chameleon puffing, posturing swaying

Attitude is a understatement This is how my girl gets when she sees soil gnats. She will be basking and charge 4 feet down to go get a closer look. Yet she barely shows colors when i rummage her crib. Not sure if shes more upset or excited lol

    Gnat Problem

I’d repot and use an Ariod soil mix. Trim any bad roots. Add some springtails to the soil. Cinnamon is a natural fungicide, which I’ve sprinkled generously on top of the soil to help. Good luck they are annoying. Also reconsider your plant placement. Soil that’s wet all the time will cause root...

    Gnat Problem

Constantly wet soil will cause root rot….and roots that are currently rotting produce the fungi the gnats feed off of. Putting the entire plant outside I don’t think would do anything to the gnat larvae….just slow them down until they warm back up. If you really want to keep the plants…re-pot...

    Soil & Gnats

...I use Katchy’s, drosera capensis (aka sundews) but the best thing I’ve found is baby mantises. I hang an ooth in each enclosure and let it hatch out. The baby mantids take care of the soil gnats and the chameleons take care of the mantids. Mantis ooths are in season now but won’t be for long.

    Little black bugs everywhere

That’s how mine was, crazy. Once I repotted into the soil I detailed in my previous post, I haven’t had a single issue!
