Yep gnats are in every soil, even if you buy new soil from the store. They live in moist conditions, what you can do is treat the soil with 1 parts hydrogen peroxide and 3 parts water, water the plants with it, then place sand, then river rocks on top, that way it the gnats ever return they will...

    praying mantis?

Yay! They are cute. Are you going to be able to feed them to your chameleon though? The two ooths I’ve had hatch haven’t been enough to do much for my soil gnat problem. It didn’t help that as soon as I put them into my enclosures, my chameleons found and ate them. There’s one left (that I can...

    praying mantis?

...immediately go after some when they saw them. The ooths hatch out hundreds of babies and it seems their instinct is to climb up high. The soil gnats went away for a long time, so they were effective. I took a few pics of them after they had grown a bit. No longer recall how many molts they...

    Getting rid of gnats/fruit flies

I read putting them in a water bottle and spraying the soil is the best way to use it. But again not sure how it effects the CUC

    Getting rid of gnats/fruit flies

Bc I don’t have too many since my soil has only been in there for about 2.5 weeks maybe less.

    Getting rid of gnats/fruit flies

This is a common problem and one which I’m in a seemingly never ending battle against. All but a few of my reptile enclosures are bioactive and I have extra plants too. I’m even finding a population of them in the garage with my roach bins (also bioactive) and hanging out with my crickets. I...

    praying mantis?

i’d love to hatch them out in my cage, but unfortunately i had to learn the hard way that making holes in the screen isn’t the way to attach branches. I’ve ordered 20 screen repair kits from framchams but that still wasn’t enough to cover all the holes 😅, so i can’t let any tiny insects out or...

    New Chameleon Questions

So very glad that she’s doing better. 😊 I think sometimes I worry as much for other’s chameleons as much as for my own. Soil gnats are rotten and no joke to try and get rid of. Keep in mind that I have 4 chameleons and they are all in bioactive enclosures, so my battle with gnats is doomed. I...

    praying mantis?

yes i will! I’ve tried feeding the smaller ones to todo and for whatever reason he just couldn’t see them or wasn’t interested in them. so i plan to feed them until they’re a little bigger but not big enough to hurt my boy, but i do also plan on keeping some as pets lol

This is why we strip the soil off the plants roots and repot in organic soil. You may get some tiny gnats with the new soil. But they go through a few months cycle then die off. If you have not yet reading through this husbandry program will help a lot...

    Soil & Gnats

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well. I have a couple botany questions I wanted to ask the pros here. After butchering the majority of my pothos and nursing some clippings back to health and getting a couple new plants, I can say that I am doing OK with the plant care side of chameleon...

I might’ve slightly overestimated on sticks.

Yeaaaaah, that being said i would propagate the wandering Jew clippings first so they have roots incase you forget to water, they root so easy and mine is next to all the other plants I have to water so hopefully i don’t forget 😂 but I’ve definitely killed more then I’ve kept alive, I honestly...

Fungus gnats ,will mosquito bits help?

I struggle with gnats between houseplants yard plants chameleon enclosure but hands down the worst culprit is my isopod tubs. I've used the bits with mixed results I feel like it's a war long and hard fought you need to win the numbers game and kill as many of the gnats as possible and...

    Please help if possible!

Yeah even with research... You will find things you like better and redo stuff lol. FYI all soil comes with the gnats..... Does not matter what you do. They cycle and hatch for a few months then tend to die off completely. Unless you bake your soil you will end up dealing with them. And baking...

    New Chameleon Questions

Thank you so much! Just trying not to get water in my plants and some traps outside are helping so far. I just wanted to update you. She is doing amazing now!! Eating so much better. The full throttle feeder is working now. She knows that’s where her food is and realizes it’s easier than...

Bioactive in a hybrid dragon strand.

...remains in the closet...and the weight of the enclosures was crazy and almost impossible to move. Make sure everything can be accessed without needing to move your enclosure! There were soil gnats, but I’m having more of a problem with them now from my non-bioactive enclosures than ever before.
