I don't think anyone would be willing to pay the labor cost to make another one of these monsters. I did it in the last week, but it took every spare minute that I wasn't sleeping or working. And I only work part-time.
I finally just finished my DIY custom enclosure. I made most of it out of driftwood and made it with live plants and sustainable substrate. The idea is that this will be for my male Bagheera :)
Love this post! I was wondering about doing something for the babies before I transition them into my 6 unit nursery cage. I think I will do this and keep babies in here for the first few weeks and then move them according to size after than :)
Thanks! Actually not that long. I made the cabinet in a couple days (had to let the protective coat dry). The room itself has expanded over time, but the room all started 4 months ago. :)
Darn pictures :(
Are the pictures coming up for other people? Anyone know how to fix that? Here's a link to the album https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.680728451976089.1073741838.100001168205375&type=1&l=d4b0be79da
I decided to post pictures of what my reptile room, set-ups, and diy enclosure look like. So for starters, this is my reptile room looking in from the hall:
To the left as you walk in is Toothless, my bearded dragon's dessert terrarium:
This is the cabinet that I re-purposed for a...
I use 75 watt bulbs for my adults, but their enclosures are 48 inches tall, so they have a lot of range and the closest they ever get is about 12 inches from the bulb. Maybe try a 60 watt regular bulb (just a standard 98 cent bulb) and see if that makes a difference. You could also try the 60...
I would agree. The temps are all high for such a young cham. Also, look into getting and feeding silkworms. For some reason my chams really started to grow when I switched to a mainly 2/3 silkworm 1/3 cricket diet. I use Coastal Silkworms and they always arrive quick, alive, and ready to go (I'd...
Thanks. I'll try that. He actually hangs out toward the top of the cage. It's 48 inches tall and he hangs out and gapes about 12 inches from the top. He comes down at night and when hunting, but otherwise he has a favorite stick toward the top. You'd think the goofball would just move down where...
I've read a lot on the forum and done searches about mouth gaping so I know that it can be caused by heat, URI, aggression, but I have a cham that does it a lot and none of the previously mentioned reasons fits.
Jackson's male, ~1 year old, ~65 grams. 85 max temp in basking spot, day cool...
Also, for the mother's care. Be sure you are dusting all her food. I would not use wax or meal worms regularly. Stick to gut loaded crickets or silkworms (my favorite). My female was also very, very thirsty. To the point that I put a small container of water in her enclosure with fake plastic...
Hey there. I hope the babies are still doing ok. I've had a heck of a time with my recent (first & last) litter of Jackson's. I'd gotten 3 Jackson's from someone who got them to breed as a hobby and then realized he didn't know anything about them. One of the females was already pregnant though...
Welcome to the forum! Its refreshing to hear that you have done your research beforehand. It is always disheartening to come across post where someone has just bought a baby cham and has no ideas on how to care or a set-up ready.
I would agree with the previous comment about your basking...
I get my silkworms and silkworm eggs from Coastal Silkworms. I get fruit fly cultures from Genesis Exotics (Amazon-for baby chams). And then I get crickets from a local shop (though I'd like to raise my own). I feed an occasional mealworm or waxworm which I get from a local shop. My fiancee drew...
