I have a 13 month old female Ambilobe. She was bred once and had the initial clutch. So far she has not produced a retained clutch, but still could as the initial clutch was laid 2 weeks ago. I have too many breeding age Ambilobe females and am wanting to swap her for a Nosy Be.
Looking for...
Or trade?
Still available. Would also be interested in a trade for a Nosy Be female any age with lineage info. Great deal if you are wanting to breed now. This girl is a proven breeder and is healthy and vibrant! I am happy to send pictures if you pm me your email address. Thank you!
Hello everyone, I have a custom built nursery cage. I had this cage built and made some improvements, but it will be late next year before I have any hatchlings and am moving before then and will have limited space.
It was fashioned after the DragonStrand nursery cages. Features: Screen...
Prenatal care?
I am wondering if the previous two posters purposefully bred their females and gave them the proper care before the babies were born? I've read that the health of the babies is mainly dependent on the care of the mother prior to her giving birth. Just like the health of egg...
Mother aftercare
For the mother's care: Be sure you are dusting all her food with regular calcium (without d3). I would not use wax or meal worms regularly. Stick to gut loaded crickets (not regular empty calorie crickets) or silkworms (my favorite).
My female was also very, very thirsty...
Baby bin
Here is a link to a post that someone posted about a baby bin set-up. Might be easier than buying another screen cage, since you will need to get one for your male too. https://www.chameleonforums.com/first-baby-bin-what-do-you-think-132950/
Hey there, I got your pm and decided it would be easier to reply to this thread. Unfortunately, it sounds like the shop was very irresponsible to keep them together long-term and to sell someone without experience a far along preggo female. Oh well.
Make sure you have hydei (flightless) fruit...
So I built an enclosure with all live plants and the main large plant is a ficus (bejaminoni-something-or-other). Unfortunately it has already lost about 1/2 of it's leaves (in a weeks time) because of my 150 gram male panther climbing all over it. So my question is, what do I get that is...
My Jackson's often has his mouth open. I've dropped his temps, taken him to the vet, and he still does it. I'd posted on here previously about it, but I really think that it's just one of his ways of communicating because it's not a temp. or health issue. jmo
Neonate advice
Make sure you have hydei (flightless) fruit fly cultures ready for after the babies are born. They might not eat the first 24 hours and might sleep most of that as they are recovering from birth. Egg born species tend to eat more quickly and be heartier than live bearing species...
I just thought I would share that I have had amazing luck with setting up a cool/warm mist humidifier next to my baby chameleon enclosure. I have a PureGuardian that you can control the level of output and also whether the mist is cool or warm. I would suggest this kind because you can set it to...
Make sure the mother is provided with enough nutrition. I would suggest a more nutritious feeder like silkworms or hornworms as opposed to crickets. Really the care of the mother isn't nearly as hard as the neonate care. From everything I've read, Jackson's babies are the hardest to keep alive...
Thanks! It's my first attempt at a wood working project. Thankfully I grew up watching my dad make anything out of everything and I inherited his mad skills. :)
