lol I've seen white roaches in the enclosure too and was confused! lol is that what they go through prior to reaching adulthood?!
As you can see, I've spent my efforts of research chams and not the dubias haha
Got ya. well, too clarify, the original thought of this idea and thread is not to make this a primary feeder by any means. It was more of a way to switch up the diet, add variety, and increase the amount of protein occasionally by offering a vertebrate sparingly.
Of course I want what's best...
Are you talking a mesh enclosure? Can you please post a pic? I have a mesh enclosure and this sounds awesome, but I'm afraid if I hooked something this, eventually the weight would become too heavy and would tear the mesh.
Thanks!
Awesome. i'm glad to hear this.. Wow, that's a significant transformation.. looked nothing like the dubias i've had.
Thanks for the clarification guys!
Really? I was assuming that vertebrates would actually be very nutritious. I know, in the wild, they may not catch a mouse per say, but the they eat lizards, frogs, etc.. You'd figure it'd be a significant amount of protein, nutrients in the blood, healthy fat, etc..
Really!!?? Wow what a relief! The males look normal at some point? Because I never put a roach in the cage that looks like that male.. So unless he matured and grew wings or something in the last week or so, I didn't put it in there. You know what I mean?
So, this morning I was searching for dubias that Koop may have missed (they hide at the bottom of the pot that my umbrella plant is in), and out comes a huge roach that looks NOTHING like my dubias!
Now, I've placed some large dubias in there, so the only thing I can think of is maybe...
I'm getting ready to buy a pinky for Koop this weekend.. He's about 1 1/2 years, and his bite is becoming powerful. He's devouring roaches that are larger than I thought he was capable of eating, and he recently ate an enormous grasshopper.... It is time! :D
Anybody else feed pinkies, mice...
Cool. Remember to test the spray on your hand first, but in my experience, when I fill the bottle with hot water, it actually comes out cool when I spray it in my hand.. SO i can only imagine that if you put room temperature or even cold water in the bottle, it would be FREEZING to the cham
get his favorite treat, like a meal worm or whatever it be, and get him accustomed to eating it from your hand. Once that happens, lure him out of the cage slooowly with the worm to the point where the worms a little to far from his launching distance, and offer your other hand for him to climb...
There could be a few things going on.
I've read that after about 1 year of age, their appetite decreases, and you could start feeding them every other day. I'm sure it varies with each cham, so you should judge by your cham's appetite..
Another thing it could be is he's being picky or...
Got ya. That's a really good deal!
I could tell you this, I've had Koop for about a year now, and lI've only seen him drink a handful of times. In the winter, the only time I see him "drink" is when he bites off chunks of his umbrella plant that has water droplets on the leaves.. In the summer...
i'd keep the dripper away from his basking spot.. I usually try to keep my guy's basking spot the lone dry spot of his enclosure.. The fact you're not seeing him drink is ok. He could be a "shy drinker" and just drinks when you're gone. As far as him not liking misting, try using warm water.. I...
Many chams just plain don't like being held. It could be that she's grown out of the stage where she'll let you swoop in and grab her you know? Try luring her out with her favorite worm. That's the only way I get my guy out and onto my hand
Can't really tell but is that a glass enclosure? If so, you should switch to a screened enclosure.
What's the ambient temp of the cage?
What's the basking temp of the cage?
What kind of lights are you using? I see a heat lamp it looks like? Do you have a linear UVB lamp as well? You need...
Sounds like you have a lot of stuff in order. I'm not vet, but the falling could be a result of calcium and vitamin defficiency. As far as the gaping at the crickets, perhaps he's getting tired of them. Try providing a larger variety of feeders other than crickets and meal worms... Either that...
Very sorry to hear of your loss :( Nobody should ever have to go through that and you have the right to be pissed off...
That being said, that's awesome that you still have the girl and she made it.. Few precautions and additions you can take for your girl :)
I know you said you put her...
