    Those look like the beetle grubs find in my yard. I keep mine is dirt and they seem to live for a long time. You could try that.

    Breeding praying mantis

    I've bred a few that were easy. Budwing (Parashendale arigonna) is one good one, they get huge and produce LOTS of babies. Also, Popa spura are easy and they aren't as cannibalistic as some of the others. Oh yeah the chinese mantis and carolina mantis are also good choices...
