If they are curled up they are probably still alive. If they are straight or brown and stinky pitch them as they are probably dead. If in doubt touch them to see if they move. It does take awhile for them to pupate.

I learned that you can tell by their back feet. If there is a spur sticking out backward from his back feet, then it is a male. No spur means female.
