I forget not everyone got blessed with warm weather yet :(
I can honestly say this is by far the best thing that has happened to my chams and I.
Its lovely not spending 30 dollars just to get 20 worms! Now all i have to do is buy cups and food and i get plenty of worms!
My moths had no interest in the hummingbird feeder at all... i got a hibiscus plant and they sucked it dry but thats it.
They are stubborn...... ugh!!
I just had 9 worms dig into the dirt!!
I would suggest grabbing the wild moths but if youre luck is like mine they will be all males..
Have...
Thats what i do- they fly around at night which is a little annoying because they hit everything so if you have more than 10 i woulld suggest getting a bigger cage- but otherwise it works out good!
Once they hatch they are all slimy and gross looking but after ten minutes they dry off and...
I think it just makes it easier and less of a mess (its a huge mess).
Plus its easier to control in-case something goes wrong.
I cant wait to breed a few more- this time i have 9 not 4 so i am hoping it will be good!!
Keep me updated i am interested in seeing how yours will go! My female...
I dug them out, that way i could mist them regularly and help develop their wings properly.. The first time i dug them up they werent cocooned all the way...
I now have 9 worms that are too big to be eaten so now i wait until they are ready!
I put the plant next to the cage touching the screen but not in it. And they mated, so no you dont.
My female laid a few eggs on the hibiscus plant- but most of them on the screen cage.
The moths are messy- they spew a orange red liquid when they hatch, but its easy to clean up.
i had my moths in a 1.5 inch tubber ware container, and just pulled up the paper towels to about 2 inches and no mess after that!
I put mine in a large tubberware with a bunch of holes in the lid with paper towels at the bottom or in a shoe box with the same thing and then cover them so its dark.
Cover them up about 20 minutes before you go so that they are sleeping by the time you leave.
Drive safe and have fun!
Definitely try that- or a light mist on her- try maybe some fruit (watermelon) very little-
What i do is rub the fruit on her mouth until she opens and then shoot some water in with a little dropper i have.
Good luck :)
I found almost no information... so i just kinda went with it.
I read that they eggs can be handled- i had my moths in a small reptifreeze cage and i had 1 hibiscus plant in it- my female moth laid eggs all over the cage, and I just pulled them off. now they are on a paper plate- once i get...
I just made my cups and the food. Both are in the fridge hardening. Tomorrow the eggs will go in it! :) I'm excited.
I have to try that. Usually I just get green or blue liquid that always happens to hit me in the eye. Always!!!!
Haha it's been a great experience so far! Although I've lost...
I got hornworm chow and cups that i will be putting together myself.
I got the empty cups and chow from rainbow mealworms and i got the netting from lowes for 3 bucks, so i will be doing that tonight.
So when they hatch they will get chow- but i usually try to take a few of the ones i will...
I keep the tomato plant by the window but it still seems to look sad a lot, sometime i just cover it with the UV light i have for my chams.
By boyfriend says next go around we are keeping them outside haha.
So for those of you guys who know I have been trying to breed my hornworms to save money.
Its been a pretty interesting couple of months. I got a batch around valentines day (yes by man loves me and my chams that much!) and 4 of them got too huge to be fed off so I just let them be, then I...
