You Said...
Which is why I said not to tell people not to use them, they are perfectly fine now. They were putting out too much UVB, now it's comparable to the ReptiSun 5.0 linear tubes.
If a new owner came on here and saw your post, he might have a false impression of CFL's.
They corrected the issue, why would it happen again? Just because you don't want to use CFL's doesn't give you the right to claim they're bad when they're not.
You can use CFL's with chameleons just fine, please don't spread misinformation.
I have owned and purchased many light fixtures for my fish and reptiles, and none have ever had a plastic cover over the light, which is why I asked.
You shouldn't be using the soil it comes in, you need to replace it and wash all the old soil off the roots.
Organic soil is crap IMO, it's full of bark and other substances that attract gnats and other bugs. I prefer sterilized soil.
Do you live on the island of Cyprus? Can you get pics of the chameleon?
I would read up on the basics here if it's a veiled: http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/
Sure the pain is real, but it's a soap opera for hillbillies, and it's no sport, it's pure entertainment. The wrestling is so fake it's unbearable to watch, they don't even hit eachother with full force.
Not trying to start a fight here, just my opinion on the subject.
Just use water, spray down the plant with your mister all the soap will come right off.
I took my schleffera and dunked both the roots and plant itself in a 5gal bucketf full of soapy water, cleaned off all the home depot dirt.
I keep my veiled around 30-40% between misting, they come from a dry climate and are used to humidity like this. When I mist it goes up to about 70% for an hour before it dries out.
