I have been noticing my veiled chameleon sits in his basking spot most of the time but he will lean to one side so the heat can hit that side and when he does this that side eye will be closed and some times both. and then he will switch so the other side is showing for heat and that eye will be...
and also if he keeps getting burned and like to just climb on cage real close to light pull the light further from the cage so the hottest possible spot he can get to is the roof and make that your basking
i say one thing to do it make sure your fixture isn't resting directly on the cage it will make that metal super hot. I made a pvc jig to elevate mine off the cage just an inch or so.
Can't wait for this little guy to get big. This is my first chameleon and I did lots of research before hand. Excited everyday to wake up and just watch him chill in his habitat. I already see myself down the road owning more than one of these pets. They are awesome.
