why not use water crystals?
Hi there, just a question for you...is there a reason you don't want to use the water crystals? They are super super cheap if you get them at say..lowes or walmart and honestly I think it'd be even cheaper than getting jello. Are you looking for a health benefit in...
I have one that I have bird eggs in and once I got the temp adjusted it hasn't moved since it's super constant, I have a thermometer on each side and in the middle and all different brands read the same thing so the temp is consistent, I have it in my extra bathroom which is the coolest room in...
On my Cham you could see eggs poking out all over, it looked like she had little jellybean shapes protruding from her. At first it was under and on the sides but then she even got some way up almost on her back that were egg shapes poking out, she looked very huge and uncomfortable. But every...
I have eggs in vermiculite that I squeezed out until there was no water dripping out. I'm curious as to what the humidity should be for them though inside the Tupperware containers? That way I'll know when I should add a little more water in the vermiculite. Also when you add water, do you...
Has she been seeming to look for a place to dig? Eating any less than usual (on her own not you cutting back)? Usually they look for a spot and will pace around the cage, going to the bottom to look for a spot. My female did not look for a spot and I had to place her in a laying bin. Dig a...
Thanks Texas I do know about the fruit flies to stat out with, those I plan to set up but the pinheads I'll need a supplier..700 a day is a lot of bugs for sure, I better make sure the container they are in doesn't tip over lol can you imagine?! I'm getting everything else ready as far as...
OKay so there was that discussion a while back about the mutant crickets with the cartoon heads that bite like a rabid dog and chew through containers. Well I got some in today and they are jumping out of the food bins and now roaming in my enclosure which I didn't want because they chew...
What part of So Cal are you in? Last time I bought silks they came pretty small and my Chams wouldn't touch them! I want to try again but don't wanna order and pay for shipping if they aren't gonna eat them :) maybe I can buy some from ya
Thank you for your helpful advice along the way jannb!
Ktown- I'm most certainly thinking they are gonna eat me out of house and home ;) It'll be so worth it though...better start shopping around for the best pinhead prices lol
Not rude at all I don't get offended easily. The thing is I DID reduce her feeding believe it or not. I fed her every day prior to her carrying eggs, only fed 3 insects per day, dusted with calcium. However when she was carrying eggs I fed her 4 per day but then 3 times a week I gave her an...
After so much worrying and waiting (37 days) my veiled has finally laid her eggs! I carefully dug them up and there are 68 of them, one looks like a little white raisin though, so I'm thinking that one is no good. The rest look great and how neat it was to dig them all up and place them in...
FINALLY day 37 and she has dug a hole!!
After much anticipation, giving daily liquid calcium and worrying she'd never lay the eggs and would become egg bound...she finally started digging shortly after I put her in the laying bin today. It's been in her cage, we took the trash can bin we made...
I use a water bottle with the top 1/4 cut off in one cage, I covered it with masking tape so my Cham wouldn't try to get the crickets through the container and keep hitting the plastic wall instead. In my other cage I have a crystal light container (the ones that are white but a little see...
Those colors mean gravid or not receptive
Usually black with the spots means either super mad, gravid, not receptive. You know if a female is ready to breed if she stays her normal passive colors when she sees the male. If she gets black with spots she is not receptive and you should take her...
I forgot to mention that winter here gets down to 19 degrees at night and in the winter we only have a wood stove so the temperature in our house is super inconsistent. The closet method will work for me for summer maybe but winter I'll need to incubate.
Okay thank you very much I really appreciate your advice. I will moisten one side of the trash bin a little bit more than the other just in case she wants a little more or less moisture and is walking around investigating...maybe that'll help her to find the "perfect spot"
