If you already have the tank and a dark space, it'll work. But don't go out and buy a tank when there are superior options was my point.
Starting up a colony of Dubia cost me about $35 (food, 100 assorted size dubia), which means I'll be profiting after about a month. Use a home depot bucket ($5) and a cheap-o heating pad under it. You dont even need to use the lid as they never can climb out of that, but I replaced the center of...
Jackson's are generally around the same price and a little friendlier than veileds.
I love my veiled, but if I could do it again I probably would've shelled out the extra cash for a panther.
Disadvantage of an aquarium is that the babies can climb up the sealant in the corners. Paint bucket is cheaper, lighter, not transparent (as stated earlier they hate the light), and they never, ever can climb out.
3-4 months old, still a little girl. Seems like small crickets and baby dubia are my limit. Anything else she can handle at her age/size? I'm well aware of her options as an adult, but just wondering for now. Thanks!
I use a Home Depot bucket (less than 5 bucks, lid included). I cut out the center of the lid and glued mesh on there, but honestly you don't even need the lid. They cant climb that thing. I have a small cheap-o heat pad under it and a couple egg-crates in there. Roach colony set-up with food and...
If you're in the US and can catch a handful of locusts, I'd create a colony. They're impossible/illegal to purchase here. Not sure about the laws on owning a colony, though.
I figured since they're banned for breeding/sale, I wondered if any of my fellow American's chameleons have ever tasted locust? Maybe you caught one or whatever. I've heard they LOVE them.
I hate to say this, but I'm slightly regretting getting a veiled for my dad. I have the female and he has the male. The female is coming along but the male is already a bit of a jerk. Even at 4 months he hisses at anybody within three feet of his cage. He is very well cared for and we never...
How do you guys avoid spraying everything within two feet of the cage? I've tried a hand mister, a pump hand mister, and even a DIY with the mist heads from home depot (the small ones used in the auto systems and in grocery stores), and every single one of them creates a spray radius way too...
Awesome
I just read through all 9 pages and I have to send an internet high five your way man. It's great everything you've done for the cham and I'm really impressed with your quest for knowledge and effort in improving his life.
Cheers.
