yes, substrate can impact a chameleon very easily. Even though people think "My chameleon isn't going to eat the dirt/rocks/cocoa bark ect." what happens is that the chameleon goes to aim for food and misses and BAM... a mouth full of substrate... It can most definitely kill your chameleons.

It was probably 95 because of the tin foil. You also could try a lower wattage bulb. We used a daylight blue bulb made by zoo med for the first couple months.. Make sure you are dusting the food with regular calcium. Hatchlings become dehydrated very quickly so make sure you are misting him down...
