    flies and gnats?

I get gnats from my potted plants. My cham actually makes a trip daily down to the base of his umbrella tree to pick off gnats. I can't see how they'd make much of a meal to him, but it's part of his routine.

baby veiled eyes closed a lot, rubbing them

Glad you could get her outside and saw her eating. How about drinking? The brown balls on her eyes sound curious. Any chance of a pic?

baby veiled eyes closed a lot, rubbing them

If possible provide some direct sunlight outside within temps mentioned above. The sun can help do wonders. I would also pay close attention to hydration levels. And start reading everything you can here especially the stickies.

Just found a veiled Cham walking across the street

Some one will be missing the big guy, his owner is probably within a 1 mile of where you found him. Maybe some signs with a pic will help you find the owner. Or perhaps they are a member here.

Feeder Progression from baby to adult?

My young veiled (~5 months) loves locusts and can't resist them. In fact it's the only bug he will climb out on my arm for, hornworms are a close second. Seems natural considering where veileds come from. We have mantids here in late summer around the porch lights, but since it was so hot food...

    Handeling Nightmare!

I'd try something similar to this, remove the roof of the smaller cage and place inside the larger cage on the floor. If necessary add branches out the top so he knows there's a way out. It won't be long before being too low and a mode of exit is realized. Place moving feeders above and let...

    Bulb for best looking cham

Your last paragraph, color is established by 1 month, What has lead you to believe this? Secondly, why then do I see comments indicating that around the 5 to 6 month mark is when intense colors come on?

    Can someone help me?

Chameleon Info: Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? Supplements -...

    Ever seen..

I caught mine inverted hanging on with just three legs the other night. Wish I got a picture, it's like he just stopped mid-movement and went to sleep. Wish I slept that hard.

    At wits end

As a new member and cham owner this topic, although declared dead by the starters last comment, is of importance to me and many new cham owners. I too have attempted to handle my cham with less than satisfactory results. Mine does not bite or hiss but definately does not want to be handled...

    breeding

Perhaps these pet owners believe successful breeding is a sign of successful husbandry. Or perhaps its to see those cute little babies grow up into healthy adults. Perhaps its that these dopes are so self centered that the health and well being of animals trusted in their care takes a back...

    Trip to the Vet?

First to get this out of the way: Chameleon Info: • Your Chameleon - Male CB Veiled Chameleon (purchased as a "Juvenile") est. 5 months. He's been with me for 7 weeks. His name is Caesar. • Handling - Handled twice for less than 5 min. He was more fearful than curious and opted to go back...

    Noob question about shedding?

You wrote: My problem is, that I work from home- he is in my office with me all day and every time I look over at him, I do so with a tiny bit of trepidation. Reading some of the horror stories on here about chams who are ill has made me a little bit paranoid! I've had mine for 6 weeks and...

    Feeding strategies

I placed the bottom half of 1 gallon plastic milk/water jug with some drain slits about mid-level in the cage within viewing of his basking spot. I used bendable vines to mount it and provide easy access for the cham. He took to it right away. Now I feed his staples from there twice a day and...

    What MBD looks like...

As a newcomer here and a new cham owner, it would be nice if there were some photos of signs of early MBD posted here. I believe that these extreme cases, although educational, interesting and inspiring, do not assist inexperienced owners on how to recognize the outward signs of MBD before...

    Cage

Has a good point. I purchased a juvenile veiled from a local pet store, roughly the same age as yours about six weeks ago. My enclosure is 50" X 20"X 56" I placed the bottom half of 1 gallon plastic milk/water jug with some drain slits about mid-level in the cage within viewing of his basking...

Do many of you do this?

I'm with Ferret and PantherMan, feeders rarely make it longer than 5 or 10 mins in my feeding station. I only feed 5 morning and evening. Even the 5-6 worms or locusts I put in, throughout the day, free range don't stand a chance. I swear he can count. Once I visit his enclosure to put them...

    misting times

I'm curious how those of you that are using much longer misting times (15-20 min) are aquiring your water (filtration?) and what type of reservoir you use? I use a 5 gal. paint bucket w/lid from Lowe's, and use roughly 3 gal. per week of distilled water from Wal-Mart for Caesar alone. I...
