What to do if the cricket suppliers fail due to the virus

In regard to the issue of dealing with fruit flies, have any of you tried flightless fruit flies? There are many different types available that are a result of a single allele genetic mutation. Many research labs use them because they are so easy to deal with.

    Fiberglass screen for enclosures

As long as the crickets aren't commonly free-ranged, them chewing through is a nonissue.

    Meal worms and phoenix worms

I was under the impression from previous posts that mealworms, if fed often enough, can lead to impaction and should thus be fed sparingly.

    Live plants.

I would say go with small pots. That way, if you decide to remove a plant or move things around, you only have to remove that pot, and don't have to dig around.

    Mounting Plants on Screen Cage

Place a dow rod along the top of the cage and the use fishing line to tie the pot(this will leave the screen intact). This will distribute the weight across the top. If you are still worried about the weight, ensure the dow rod is long enough so that if rests on the frame and not the screen intself.

    First chameleon enclosure! Please evaluate!

I would suggest eliminating the broccoli from the gutload. It can interfere with calcium absorption in your chameleon.

    My new free range!

That's what I though, but I haven't seen any with leaves colored like that. The ones I've found around here aren't nearly as bushy either.

    Good cheap minutes timer?

If you check any local hardware store, or home depot, they have both digital and analog timers. For what you are describing, the timer should run you about 8-10 bucks. I saw them in Ace Hardware today if you guys have that.

    Oustalet's vs Carpets

I'm not sure, but from what I hear, an Oustalet might need a larger enclosure than what you are talking about. In addition, if you're going for looks, they aren't nearly as colorful as carpets. Carpets, however, don't tolerate mistakes very well from what I understand and require a very high...

What do I need to know?

Keep in mind that in nature, chameleon's have an enclosure of essentially infinite size. So the cage you have should be fine. There is a member on these forums, Dooley1, who has had more success than most with Carpets. You may want to PM him and pick his brain a bit. Edit: Definitely go with...

post a picture of your chameleon cage.

rocket, what wood do you mean? If you're refering to the wood perches, I use thumb tacs pushed into the sides. All you have to do is cut the dow rods about a half inch wider than the screen. That would most likely keep them in place due to friction, but the thumbs tacs are there just incase.

post a picture of your chameleon cage.

What are the measurements on that cage? The glass shouldn't stress thecham out...unless it is very dark around the cage and light insideof it, the reflection won't be anything he will really notice(As proof: many in Europe use all glass enclosures). In fact it will help with keeping up humidity...

    Sad but common story

Make sure the female is in a cage. You wouldn't necessarily have to leave her outside at night, as they will be asleep.

    Does anyones Chameleon do this?

My guy sometimes does this aswell. They are just looking around, staying as still as possible until they can see the area is predator-free.

How do you keep fruit flies in your containers?

Have you tried flightless fruit flies? Such as those with vestigial wings? I'm not sure where cultures of these would be found, but they are unalble to fly. They come in both hydei or melanogaster. They are very common in bio labs as a way to study inheritance and because of how easy they are...

    Fruit Flies in Plants

I actually don't water the plant. I think it get's enough watering between the dripper and the misting. It is covered with river rocks. Perhaps gravel under the river rock? I did spray it with a dilute soap solution.
