Hi All,
I just wanted to share the excitement of having finally gotten my first C. quadricornis! He is about 6-7 weeks old and I have had him for 4 days. He is devouring fruit flies and seems to be happy in his new home!
I personally don't like enclosures entirely made of glass - that said, if at least 2 sides are screened I think you have a good compromise for species that require higher humidity yet maintaining air circulation. At the end, you can always control humidity by misting the cage.
I am attaching...
Looks like there are a lot of things that should be changed... the lack of UVB is serious - the cham cannot synthesize Vit D3 necessary for calcium metabolism without it; the glass aquarium is just not ok, because chams need air circulation; a chameleon cage (a screen one) should be taller than...
Urates (the orange portion of the excrement) should be white; orangish color indicates that your cham should drink more. Misting the cage more should be enough to provide him with additional water.
Hi, I think there are a few things you may want to reconsider, starting with not having any lights on at night. As you pointed out, a glass enclosure is not really recommended - that said, it is surprising that humidity levels are not higher in a glass enclosure... You should definitely try to...
You should supplement with multivitamins once a month or so; gutloading is feeding your feeder insects a varied, rich diet, so that they are more nutritionally valuable when fed to your chameleon (there are great threads on this topic in the forum).
I agree with Carol that the lights are...
Great - A couple of questions:
How often do you give him multivitamins? Also, do you use any straight calcium without D3? You should use that regularly and the one with Vit D only once a month or so.
Do you gutload the crickets?
Why 3 different incandescent lights?
Hi and congrats! In order to provide helpful information it would be good to have more information on how you keep your chameleon (see "how to ask for help" in the health clinic forum).
A couple of comments:
1. Feeding - at that age you want to feed him fruit flies and pinhead crickets...
It would be helpful if you could fill out the form "How to ask for help" and maybe post a picture.
In any case, if he is eating well, why would you force feed him a hornworm?
I am looking for new homes for 3 of my captive bred (CB) Jackson's females. These girls were born on 6/29/2011, are growing well and accept a variety of feeder insects.

I am asking $40/each, but offers are welcome. Ideally I would prefer local pick-up, but if you are really...
