Looking to start a breeding colony of these guys so I'm looking for adults or sub-adults to breed. PM or reply with info on the amount of adults (mixed sex of course) you would be willing to sell, and the cost. Thanks!
Closing his eyes during the day is a sign of serious health concerns. And these concerns are usually nutrition based imo. Im not familiar with the nutrition of your supplement or your gutload, can you give us more info on this? If he is missing some nutrition in the diet it could result in this...
although i only deal with my veiled, it sounds like his behavior is due to a a vitamin/mineral overdose or deficiency. What feeders are you using and how are you gutloading?
Of course she is :p you are a giant creature that could very well be a predator. The trick is patience. interact with her indirectly and passively. Before you try hand feeding, try introducing her to your hands through other means. Make sure that the cham sees that your hand delivers the food...
I believe the behaviors you are referring to are typical for chameleons entering adolescense. When gravid they will typically eat less, explore the bottom of their enclosure, and turn very dark colors. If you are worried that she is gravid, you can always put an egg bin in there just in case.
You can stick thumb tacks through the holes in the mesh and deep into the stick/branch on both ends. Given that you aren't housing a monitor lizard, it should hold up :D
I dont mean to be rude to you or your employer, but pet stores are notorious for offering incorrect care to chameleons. The way that they keep the chams is either entirely incorrect (using substrate, night bulbs, water bowls) or incomplete (not offering correct supplements). I highly advise...
for these specific supplements:
Rep-Cal plain (no D3)
Rep-Cal with D3
Herpivite
Is it ok to use the standard frequency of: calcium daily, D3 and multivitamin twice a month?
You dont want to "help" by trying to pull it off in case you pull up a bit of skin and allow for infection to get in. If you are worried that the shed is taking too long, either spray more frequently as posted above, or give it a nice shower :)
Feeders should be dusted with plain calcium (no d3) every feeding, calcium + D3 twice a month, and a multivitamin twice a month. Failing to do so can result in bone disease and vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Also, ive read that the orange cubes are bad for gutloading. Try using either cricket...
You should definitely spend time reading through all of this info on proper husbandry for the veiled chameleon. It sounds like you are still lacking alot of necessities. That being said, welcome to the forums and thank you for attempting to save an animal in suffering. Members on this forum are...
Ive seen people use sticks for the crickets to climb up instead of mesh. Seems cheaper, easier, and more natural. Just something to consider as I havent tried this myself.
Sorry, I cant really tell where the lumps are from the picture. But what you are describing sounds like either gular edema (caused by either an overdose or deficiency of vitamin A i believe), or gout (caused by a diet with too much protein). Both are reversible in the long run, but I would...
