Chameleons cant hear for one. Also, if it's just your computer screen i doubt it's to much light. If you notice the chameleon is awake you should try to direct the light away from the cage.

I say male as well. Coloration is definitely a way to determine when they are older, but not when they are babies. Gotta look for that bulge :) That link that Kent gave you is very helpful! Look for the little indention to indicate if it's a girl.

I've never owned a female veiled, but with my male veiled and all my panthers, the colors keep coming out more vibrant as they get older.
