Did you use a non toxic rubber ceal because that could have been the problem

I have built a plywood tank out of pine boards and I'm am planning to ceal is with a rubber ceal ore pond celear but would this stop toxic fumes from touching my chameleon ore not And before you ask I live in south africa we don't have pvc board
