actually the dirt gets fresh water all the time.. it does not get stagnant. it drains into the bottom layer before it hurts the plants or the cham for that matter.. my plants grow so fast its unreal.. its actually a very effective method.. thats why I was curious if any one else does it.. right...
they can eat soil.. but be careful with the peat moss.. it could cause compaction.. this i dont know for sure.. I would wait till others answer this question..
the tupper ware is what Ive been doing for 8 years.. the pvc bottom is a nightmare to drain.. you need a custom rack with a drain pan under it..and placing a container in the tank is just down right dangerous for the cham..this method allows you you drain when the water fills in the drainage...
does any one in here use the screen cages with a Tupperware bottom? what I mean is. putting a 3 inch layer of gravel or pellets.. then a plastic mesh, and then a layer of organic soil, then planting your plants inside the soil instead of putting potted plants in the enclosure.. you would be...
most of the time this problem is too much calcium.. how much are you dusting?
when you do dust with calcium with d3 or without d3.. only dust a couple of crickets per feeding.. or very lightly dust them .. you dont have to make them look like ghost.. its better to be under dusting then over...
the 5.0 and 10.0 are uvb lighting.. you must have uvb lighting.. they need it to get vitamin d3.. and calcium with d3 and calcium without d3 supplements,vitamin supplements, and you need an all screen enclosure.. but that depends on the age of the chameleon.. these guys in this forum know thee...
repti sun 5.0 or 10.0 depending on the enclosure and the distance it will be from your cham.. and as many basking lights that it takes to make the ambient temp.. 75 to 80, basking area around 95.. and it also depends on the age of the chameleon..
jeweled chameleons coundnt have said it any better.. my little john street looks so darn peaceful at night.. he looks bright green and all cozy.. I just couldnt not wake him for nothing.. yes let him sleep..
