    Juvi Veiled Enclosure

    If you get a male, you're going to need a 24X24X48 at around 6 months anyways. Since you shouldn't purchase a chameleon really younger than 3 months, especially if its your first time.. No matter what size baby cage you get, it will only really last 3-4 months. If you go to cages.net and...

    New Cham from LLLREPTILE

    Panther chameleons do not have the spurs on the feet. You're looking for a bulge at the base of the tail. Profile shots of where his tail meets his body will assist in sexing the little creature. Depending on how young it is, it may not be possible to accurately sex it at this point.

    New Cham from LLLREPTILE

    LLL buys chameleons from everyone. But obviously they only pay wholesale prices, and relatively low ones at that.. however they will almost always buy what you have.. so I think they get their chams from a lot of decent breeders, but its certainly not the pick of the litter. BUT at the end...

    Worried about my Grabby!

    I'm not trying to discourage you or ruin your enjoyment of your animal, I'm really not. But its important to understand whats going on. She crawls up onto you out of that cage because its on the ground and she wants to get higher. When she is past that instinct and suddenly overwhelmed she...

    Worried about my Grabby!

    Its important with animals like these to maintain perspective. It gives you a better understanding of the animals true needs and what they are communicating to you. Your chameleon is watching you, because she fears you, and it is in her best survival interest to be aware of where you are at...

    Worried about my Grabby!

    If she were mine, and I wanted to save her.. this is what I'd do. 1) Get her enclosure up to par with what everyone suggests here, a nice screen cage with appropriate lighting, and a nice schefflera or ficus. 2) Order some hornworms, but make sure they're small. Also some small silkworms...

    Worried about my Grabby!

    I don't know if anyone else suggested it.. But if you can get some small hornworms and silkworms... it will help boost her hydration levels.

    Uv lighting

    Be sure that you ALWAYS wash your hands and never share equipment or feeders between the beardie and cham cage. Parasite transmission between the species can be nasty.

    Red bar/blue bar redux

    My blue bar ambilobe has blue bars, at all times, has never shown anything even approaching reddish in them. In fact the blue really came in before any other color. I think breeders have slowly been refining the bloodlines to approach this. Just as Nosey Be's aren't actually that blue in the wild.

    Uv lighting

    MVB bulbs are tricky in regards to chameleons. I wouldn't do it. My primary issue is that they are extremely high heat bulbs. You need considerable distance between the cage and the MVB bulb. A chameleon cage should be as close to the ceiling as possible really.. so those two things don't...

    power cut

    I wouldn't sweat it, unless you were talking about temperatures below 60 degrees. If you have no means to provide alternate heat, i'd wrap the cage in a blanket to retain whats there, and the darkness will trigger the cham into sleep mode.

    Training a cham to drink from a dish!

    I hope nobody else here tries it. It is next to impossible to maintain the sanitary conditions necessary for these delicate animals in a body of standing water. Standing water breeds bacteria. If the chameleon defecates in the water, or runoff from a leaf that the chameleon defecated on... or...

    My cham and my electricity Bill.

    It shouldn't have caused that kind of jump, not even a small reef tank would have caused that kind of jump, HOWEVER. 1) If your electricity company has been simply estimating your usage all year, this may be their year end catch up where they actually read the meter and charge you the...

    New Jackson's owner

    Not sure why you would return your chameleon. I'd turn the light off, it will do fine for a few days without UVB, just get the right bulb as soon as you can. In the meantime if you have a D3 supplement I'd use that until the right bulb arrives.

    Crested Geckos also make great chameleon alternatives if she's looking for something that takes up less space than a bearded.

    heat lights

    The short answer is no. The long answer is I'm concerned over what you mean by heat light. Are you using some kind of Red or Black light as your basking lamp? It is probably best to post a picture of your whole setup here, as the guys here can spot any problems before they begin to...

    using subtrate

    Anything that provides increased surface area, provides more bacteria. It is there for your enjoyment, not the benefit of the animal. A piece of plain cotton fabric on the bottom of the cage would provide more than 100X the surface area for bacteria to breed vs. a piece of solid plastic or glass.

    using subtrate

    Actually carpet provides tremendous surface area for bacteria to breed. The plastic bottom of the cage works best. Chameleons don't care if the bottom of their enclosure looks like grass or not, they primarily want to be as far away from it as possible.

    Neither are necessary, I would avoid mealworms altogether, wax worms can be used as a treat (once a week)
