I would definitely make that trade, but I don't think my mother would let me keep roaches in the house. Haha. We have a bunch of beardies, maybe she would if they were beneficial to them as well. Doubt it though.
Thank you for your help, and maybe we can work out a trade for something else...
I get dandelion greens from Sprout's. They don't always have them though because they're apparently high in demand, so sometimes it's better to call and ask/have them held before you make the trip out.
I dust with a mixture of ReptoLife Plus and ReptoCal, at every feeding, which is every...
You will get a lot of misleading info from people at pet stores, from what I have experienced. Some people do say that dusting twice a week is okay, I even have a book that says so, but generally it is recommended that you do more.
As for your next steps, you should go out and buy a digital...
Since she is fed every other day now that she's old enough to be, I dust every time she is fed.
I feed her 6-10 (usually around 8) large crickets, which are gutloaded with fluker's cricket quencher, fluker's high calcium cricket diet, dandelion greens, potatoes, carrots, etc. or, she is given...
So, I do not use substrate in my cham's cages specifically for the reason that I don't want them ingesting anything that isn't a part of their diet. However, I do have a hibiscus plant in each cage, which has been re-potted with organic soil.
Today, I noticed that one of my chams (female...
A bunch of things need to be done to improve his health...
For starters, we need more specific info. Temps (basking and general), brand/model of lights (are you using a coil type bulb?), any substrate being used, etc.
Next:
-the cage needs to be placed higher. Definitely not sitting on...
You can buy a swamp cooler at Home Depot and hook it up in your garage, or somewhere else in your house, and it will help save money & keep costs down. It does bring some humidity into the air, but it helps with the heat.
I had a fake plant in my room next to my chameleon's cage one time, and she was digging at the bottom of her cage all day long. Once I moved it out of her sight, she stopped digging... Is there a window or any fake plants by your cage? Your cham could be thinking he can get it to, and therefore...
Yeah, I bought one of my enclosures from there, and their prices aren't too terrible. I went about a month or so ago, and it was pretty gross. I mean, it's hard to be sanitary and clean when you have such a variety of animals to care for and when you breed all the feeders, but it was beyond what...
Mhmm.
I've been to a few of the other pet/reptile shops around my area and every place seems just as bad, or worse, than the typical Petsmart/Petco. Pets Inc. (on Mill Ave.), for example, the guy didn't know when his baby veiled chams were born, when he was going to be able to sell them, or...
I have the book, "Chameleons" by Ferguson/Kalisch/Keown, and under the feeding section for veiled chameleons, it says that you can feed young C.c.calyptratus alfalfa sprouts and pureed vegetable baby food.
I haven't tired either, but I'm mostly wondering about the baby food. Has anyone tried...
If you do have a UVB light, it may just need to be replaced. You should be replacing them every 6 months or so. Without the right kind of lighting, she can really suffer.
If possible, take her out at least once a week for some real sun.
And, like everyone else said, absolutely no...
