Lots of points there Kinyonga, ill try my best to answer them:
1) He seemed to slow down on his recovery, but now he is much better than before. He grips like he used to, walks around and climbs all over the place, drinks two or three times a day and seems much more like himself.
2) I was...
Just looked under my (definate) male Meller's, he doesnt have spots on either side. However, he was pretty dark when i checked, so they might be blending in.
It will probably be a while until i get another Meller's, the one i have now is enough for me at the moment. I was just wondering what other places sell chameleons as i have only ever seen them at Koi.
Bedfordshire Graeme? Where did you get your chams from? I got mine from the Japanese Koi Company, but i have been looking for other places to get hold of a female mellers as a mate for my first one :)
Im not too worried as i fed him again earlier and he didnt do it. I think it was just a wall of pate forcing some air down into him and him burping it back up. He seems happy enough now. Cheers for the opinions guys :)
URI? Whats that?
Basking varies between 29-31, ambient between 25-27. I dont have a way of reading humidity, but i spray him 3=4 times a day for lengthy durations.
He did have food in his mouth at the time. I thought it might be air pockets in the stuff we are feeding him (like paté through a syringe) coming back up.
My chameleon when we took him out to feed him this morning was making noises like a very tiny wookie. Like a squeaky roar. Very strange. Also, when we feed him he sometimes burps, not like the noise of a human one, just simply expelling gas from his mouth.
Is this normal? I havent heard his...
Well since yesterday i have started using a small amount of nutrobal mixed with a larger amount of calypso so he is getting more calcium in his diet as well as the vitamins with his feeds.
Well then, i guess the good news is that i havent been poking him in the brain.
Its good to hear he has healthy ones, especially as he is recovering from MBD at the moment.
Well the main difference is that females will lay unfertilised eggs on her normal cycle, so you will need to keep an eye on her for when she becomes gravid and wants to lay. Get hold of a bucket and some coconut rusk/play sand so you have it on hand just in case.
So, i have a Meller's chameleon, and while handling him the other day i noticed that he has small 'soft spots' on top of his head, just in front of his flaps:
In the above picture, the bits im talking about are the small pair of mounds between the eyes and flaps on top of the head...
Thread Necromancy
I had a dream last night in which I came home with a new baby meller's from somewhere, and i held him in my hand to show my other Meller's (Gizmo) to see if they got on. Gizmo turned and looked at him, then shot his tongue out and gobbled him up!
I was horrified, until i woke...
Haha! I called my mum in to see, and she thought that he had pooped out his own intestines and was in the process of dialling the vet! I had to stop her and point out that pooping out two sets of intestine is unlikely, and penises were much more likely!
As do i :)
Hopefully ill be able to get a float test, but as this poop is the first he has done in about 2 weeks, i cant guarentee anything. Ill probably need another vet visit in a few weeks for another calcitonin jab, so if it stays stinky i can bump it forwards for when he next poops.
