This is a forum for discussing chameleon husbandry and health as well as general topics involving chameleon.
NOT a forum for being over sensitive. If you didn’t like a question or “tone” ignore them and move on.
Also: If you don’t have time to fully answer a question, wait to reply until you...
With a enclosure of that size, misting before the lights turn on in the morning and scheduling the basking and UV light to turn off for the “maintenance misting” in the afternoon, will be helpful. If your humidity levels are solid, you can skip the afternoon misting and utilize a dripper...
Something that may require your attention is the angle of your misting heads. They appear to be aimed in the direction of the basking zone. I wouldn’t want to be blasted by water if I were out sunbathing.
You may have already considered this and have set a misting scheduled accordingly, but...
As I am sure you want to create a healthy environment, I encourage you to visit Chamaeleon Breeder Podcast
Bill Strand has put together a wonderful collection of informative and educational podcasts revolving around care and husbandry. Episode 114 and 115 for your immediate needs.
Typically, when you see a chamaeleon climbing on the screen, it means that there is something they are unhappy with in or outside the enclosure and are looking to find a more secure place. (but can’t get out to find one)
Offering more places to hide could be helpful. Check your temps as well...
I am in the market for a more robust lighting system to stimulate plant growth and encourage natural behavior. (This will not include UVB requirements)
Has anyone used lighting from Spectral Designs for their enclosure?
I am interested in, purchasing experience, general effectiveness in a...
My apologies. I saw "5 Stage RO Drinking Water Reverse Osmosis" in the title and assumed it had the alkaline remineralize stage. I should have looked.
I stand corrected.
That filter you linked is for a 5 stage drinking water filter. So it's remineralizing, for flaver, increasing the TDS.
The concept I have is, in nature, chameleons drink dew and rain water that has very low (if any) TDS. So this is what I provide them with.
For my aquariums, I start with 0 TDS...
I'm using the Icecap system. It would be a bit over kill if you only have one animal in your care. The internal timer and spill sensor are what sold me on this unit. The 3 TDS sensors were the cherry on top.
Perhaps I'm spoiled and not realizing it, but the system paid for itself in 6 months...
I would think running warm water from a water heater through a RO filter would cause premature failure of the RO diaphram.
Also, it takes roughly 45 minutes to filter 5 gallons of water (maybe longer with a budget system) Its easy to become busy with something else in that time and forget that...
You posted a picture of him crawlin around on your head.. Thats hardly just putting him in his cage...
Chameleons are not a tuchy feely kind of pet.
Try leaving him alone for a few weeks and follow the care sheet.
I have been keeping chameleons for 10 years and have yet to have one (that wasn't sick) fall asleep/close their eyes while I was handling them. Then again, I don't handle them when I know they are ready to sleep. Put him to bed and see if he stays awake all day tomorrow.
