Mine has lost some nails on his front foot. It doesn't really affect them, mine is still able to climb well, just watch out for any swelling in the toes.
Na I don't think so. Isambard was 12 weeks old when I got him and I just housed him in a full sized cage with exactly the same layout as he has now at 10 months old, haven't had any problems with him thus far. The only mistake I made was not providing enough cover and he was a little bit...
Yeah I was really surprised by his colours. His cage makes him look darker than he actually is but when he's up close like in the pic that's how he looks. I got him from a breeder in Portsmouth, which is a town on the south coast of England. He houses two females and one male together without...
Here's the man himself. Apart from his shedding skin how do you think he looks? healthy? he seems to be doing fine to me just wanted to get the opinions of more knowledgeable keepers :)
I think it is just the lights. I had a worry (yes another one!) that there was a small lump on the side of his mouth so I enticed him off his perch with a wax worm. As he came up close I saw that his colours were indeed normal and pretty much look exactly the same as a normal, healthy...
I can't get a pic of my chameleon but i've managed to track down a pic that gives an example of the colours he shows all the time, well, most of the time.
He's slightly lighter than that but that's pretty much what he displays all the time, minus the spots on his legs and throat. On the rare...
I mist mine for drinking purposes. As I live in the UK the natural humidity in my room is always 45% - 50%. I started out misting in the morning but he never drank so I just do it in the afternoon now. It takes about a minute to do it as I use one of those pump hand mister, I just do it until...
Is that the whole of your cage? or is there more at the bottom? If it is all your cage it looks far too small for him. Chams very, very rarely go on the floor as they are tree dwellers and need height. Put his cage on top of a chest of drawers or something so that he is always above your eye...
6 months. First reptile i've ever owned and pretty much the first pet i've ever had! apart from a rabbit when I was 10 and the odd gold fish here and there. Talk about chuck myself in at the deep end eh? lol. It's going well though, he hasn't really caused me any major concerns (yet) and is...
Fair play to you aaron. Before I bought my chameleon I researched for 6 months, got everything I needed and then some and I still sometimes think i'm in over my head. Nah he doesn't love me but he makes me laugh every day with his hissy fits, the way he moves around his cage and when he eats...
Yeah and that the truth :D
Loads of things about the keeping of these creatures sparks a massive debate lol.
I think you're probably worrying over nothing really, I do it too! if 10 is working for you then keep the 10, i'd still take out the 2 though as that seems pointless. Your setup is...
Ah you mean something like this don't you?
I have something very similar too and the 5.0 works fine. 5.0 is perfectly adequate because that canopy will reflect the light deeper into the cage, I have mine slap bang in the middle so the rays reach everywhere.
Forgive the silly question but by canopy do you mean loads of plants at the top of the cage? I have a 4 foot cage also but the top of the cage is totally clear. A reptisun 5.0 with reflector appears to do the job as i've had no problems with Isambard so far.
Hmmm something is wrong in his cage. Chameleons won't want to come out if they're happy inside their cage. I dunno what to suggest apart from changing your UV lighting, from what I can gather you have 2 UV lights in there? one 10 and one 2? You only need one reptisun 5.0 tube that stretches...
Maybe this too! he still has a bit of skin to shed off his toes and tail. In fact as I re read your post this is exactly what he's doing. Here's me hassleing him by trying to help and give his feet a bath when really he just wants to be left alone
I know this may sound an odd question but is there any cause for alarm if he's really active? for the past couple of days he's been kind of pacing his cage in a circuit. He'll come off his basking perch, go down between the plant pots, climb up the side of the cage then back round to the...
I clean it about once a week. I of course pick up any feces and spot clean the area but that's all I do really. The paper towels dry out quickly, i've not had any problems this way.
