Did you get T8 or T12 bulbs? Do they match the fixture?
I had a problem sounding similar to yours when I first set up. I had bought 48 inch UVB bulbs that were T12/40 watt. I went to Walmart and bought a 48 inch fixture and never read the box. It was for T8 bulbs....the funny part was...
If nothing else, it makes the colors of your chameleons look better because of the whiter light. :)
I had two bulbs similar to this that I was using as continuous lighting for taking photos. I measured UVB on those and it only showed a 001 reading (one of my other regular daylight...
I think you have your mules and donkeys turned around....
Male donkey (jack) x female horse (mare) = mule
Male horse (stallion) x female donkey (jenny) = hinny (rare since the foal is too large for most jennies to carry full term.)
Sorry.....didn't mean to derail the thread. Carry on.
I am pretty sure you will be purchasing a larger cage soon(assuming you have a vieled from your avatar) but for now one nozzle in the 16x16x20 cage isn't too big.
The beauty of the Mist King is that it can grow from 1 nozzle to 15, just add more nozzles.
Thanks for the replies....sounds like a vet trip is in order.
She is not shy and friendly (walks on to my hand when I offer), so she gets a lot of outside time to catch some real UV light.
She doesn't look sick, and is fairly active and no signs of URI, but if vocalizing isn't part of the...
I have a female Ambilobe that makes a chirping/croaking sound, similar to some small tree frogs. Has anyone else heard their chameleon vocalize (besides hissing)?
She usually arches her head back (lke a wolf howling) and lets out one or two croaks. She does this at least once or twice a...
Try wearing a different shirt. One of my males was head bobbing at me once. I realized I had on my Hawaiian shirt on and I guess he was digging the bold red and yellow colors.
Just make sure to monitor the first few cycles...if you work M-F, I would suggest setting it up on a weekend and check on him/her with each mist cycle to see how it reacts to the mist. Most of my chams just move away, a few, like my 4 month old, likes to sit underneath the spray and drink.
Most nozzles cannot cover the entire cage and if you have your cham in a really small cage, just aim the nozzle to one side so that your cham can have a place to "hide" from the mist.
8 weeks from pinheads to adults. I just got a new male Ambanja myself. He was hatched Feb 24, same age as yours. I buy 1/4 size crickets for him, but luckily, I have adult Chams that will eat any left overs that grow past 1/2 size.
1000 is a lot for one Chameleon, but you will get a few die...
What about CO (Carbon Monoxide)? Most news reports of people that die of CO poisoning say they died peacefully in their sleep.
But I don't know how this gas affects reptiles. Fortunately, I never had to euthanize any of my pets (I alway took them to the vet and had to leave before they start)
