The thing with handling is that I don't see a problem with it, as long as it doesn't stress the chameleon. The issue is, that most novice keepers can't recognize those stress signs.
aka.. "Well he's upset at first, but once i get him out he calms down, he'll even go to sleep in my hand" which is...
I think it completely has to do with the fear level of the animal.
My first cham Ziggy has been terrified of me from the moment he came out of the box. I can work in the cage, etc. but trying to handle him at all is a surefire way to get bit.
My second cham also is very fearful.. she...
A hundred percent agreed that this is a state issue.. But the fact that non-native species damage the environment is still really a philosophical issue, not a scientific one. The brown snake has eaten all the native animals.. now there are no more native animals.. but there are lots of snakes...
Even in a screen cage a cham isn't going to appreciate a pet store environment. That said.. at the size I normally see chameleons in petsmart, etc. I dont' think a glass cage is the end of the world.
Pet stores aren't designed for the long term housing of any of these animals..
Every day a...
The care is essentially the same, I've seen panthers and veilds exhibit the same varying dispositions..
Essentially people recommend that you start with a veiled because they're cheaper and thus people seem to equate that with "disposable" for whatever reason.
Its like Iguanas.. one of...
Harming? are any of these invasive species harming the environment? Other than humans..
They're certainly changing it.. thats what this is really about, as humans we have a way we like things to be, and we need the environment to suit our needs. Any change or deviation from the plan causes...
The scary part is, I have a feeling that a re-written, acceptable bill to most will still ban chameleons.
Anything done at the federal level is going to effect all states, on the needs of one or two.. SO because chameleons are invasive in hawaii and florida.. bye bye chameleons. Best case...
No need for fake plants. A Tom's Aqua Lifter is a little tiny $15 3.5gph diaphram pump. It can run dry, etc. It uses airline tubing. Run the tubing up to a manifold that splits off into several different lines.. each ending wherever you want the drip.. Use airline control valves to control the...
Don't know the thread, but the pump you want is the aqua lifter by toms I believe.. it will pump very slowly, with a lot of head pressure. They're often used in the aquarium hobby to dose chemicals slowly over the course of the day..
Here's the rub.. Everything that congressman wrote in his letter was right. Non-native species do pose a massive drain on the economy, and are a huge problem. Thats why this bill is so scary, its flawed logic... They hold up a handful of environmental issues that are essentially valid, and...
I'd have to look.. I thought somebody tried it out in one of the UVB meter threads... maybe I'm completely wrong, though it does stand to reason that drastically less light penetrates the reptarium mesh vs. regular screen.
Might have just been a comment from ChromaChameleons, but it appeared...
I use calcium without D3 (Minerall-O would be fine) at 2 out of every 3 feedings.. About twice a month I use the zoomed, I believe its called Reptivite with D3.
I think canadians are just scared of frogs.. :D
I'm fascinated by that portion of the law. Only because I can envision how it went down..
"Well, we've taken care of the big scary snakes.. what's next on the list? Eh?"
"Poison Dart Frogs"
"Oh well, they're clearly poisonous, add...
