Does it only shoot in a straight line? My guy was perched about 8 inches above a cricket which was camped out underneath a leaf and he managed to stick his tongue right on it's head. It reminds me of that movie "Wanted" where Angelina Jolie curves bullets around walls.. Do these sort of 'magic'...
I've been feeding my 4m Panther baby mantis for fun because his eyes light up every time I put one on at leaf and the fact that mantis are climbers makes them excellent toys for chameleons.
My Chinese mantis are eating fruit flies that I have been loading with apples and oranges in hopes that the Mantis gets some of the fruit, too. I can't find any info on a Mantis nutritional value vs. common crix or any other feeder. Does anyone else know? I'm guessing the baby mantis are a bit...
She looks healthy to me, the arms and legs make good 90 deg angles and eyes aren't sunken. She could be really stressed, so give her everything she needs and monitor without disturbing. How long have you had her? and do you handle often?
Let the cage dry between misting, put live plants in there to soak up the excess water, feed him crickets that are no longer and the width between his eyes. I had similar problems with free range feeding until I took out a bunch of fake vines and sticks. Now there's one plant in my enclosure and...
I plan on separating them into deli cups with mesh lids when they get a little bigger or until i notice a big decline in population, lol. There's a video on Youtube where a guy feeds his mantis a goldfish and it was really brutal, but awesome at the same time. They are like aliens and zombies...
Usually it is leaf to leaf, but I sorta threw it together today. There are actually 2 exposed sticks...one leads to his sleeping quarters and right above that one is the 'exit' stick. I tried to offer him a branch one day when he was climbing the top of the screen like going around in circles...
Yeah, free ranging can be a pain. But, at least they get to hunt and eat something even it's not as much as we would like. Just try to remove as many crickets as you can before he sleeps.
.
We are playing it.
For five days now I've placed the identical plant he has in his cage right at the front door in hope that he might venture out into the "unknown'' and every day he gets a little bit closer to the stick, but never dares to cross. I tried...
Buy 1/4 inch crickets, put 15 in the cage, and let him hunt. Make sure your cage is sealed. I tried to cup feed my dude, but he would just look at them and believe me I tried ever sort of "cup" there is. Now, I just put the crickets at the base of his plant and they climb the branches to their...
Thanks Shrills!
Here's what the cover looks like. I will use a glue gun next time, lol.
You can just barely see an escapee who is sitting on the back right
side of the bin at the top of the photo. Very tiny right now. And yes they hop all over the place!
A lot of them escaped the bin by peeling back the duct tape 0.o
They are the coolest insect and after I saw them yesterday I spent
like an hour online just looking at different species.
Three weeks passed since I put them into this bin and left it on the back porch. I checked on them yesterday and this is what I saw.
They are Chinese Mantis from some online garden shop and in the picture there are two Oothecas. I feed them flightless fruit flys and...
