While I do agree, and I do think it would be better for someone to say (and do) something like, "I tried researching and I found .... and .... but, I still don't understand ...." or something along those lines, I also think that it's okay for people to ask a question that's already been answered...

Today, I learned that in Arizona only fraternities can actually live together because if 10 or more girls are living together it is considered a brothel, and that's illegal.
In my opinion, it is good to simply know and be enlightened by conducting research, whether it has benefits that can be directly seen or not, or it even benefits at all. In other words, I don't think that we should only learn new ideas and things simply because we see a point to them.
If you read his post you would know he's not doing it because he thinks it's cool... There's simply a lack of information about this plant with chams, and while this does seem to pose a threat to his cham, he did state that his cham's health is his priority.
I'm all for the new research.
All I have to say is:
1. Enjoy and take as many classes as you can while they're still free
2. Get as many dual enrollment classes (provided that they're available to you) as you can when you're a junior/senior. They're much cheaper, and it will be nice to go into college (if you do) with...
