My guy is called 'Odo'.
It is named after the changeling on Star Trek Deep Space 9. Someone suggested if I got a feamle I should call her 'Kira' after the woman in the same programme.
I'm probably enough of a geek to name all future chameleons after Star Trek characters.
Checked on my locusts today. They've eaten nearly all the fruit and no evidence there was ever any leaves there but no noticable decrease in oatmeal. Anyone suggest some mesh type stuff I could put over the plastic door? I've seen a few things on sale from reptile shop websites which would...
I'll have to get some kale, romain lettuce and cress. Can't imagine the mint or basil has much nutritional value (just what I happened to have in my house currently and seems to work fine to keep the locusts alive). Watercress is apparently a 'super food', although the term 'super food' is a bit...
I had some sand, a heat mat, an heat lamp with 40W bulb, some fake plants, an ice cream tub (which i put the sand in) lying around my room and this is what turned out. I only put one bit of egg carton as i'm unconvinced how much these actually benefit locusts and tend to be the first thing to go...
I keep the tubes in and don't use any egg crates. The reason being is I found with larger quantity of crickets, the egg crates tended to go a bit horrible and the crickets sometimes even ate them. Dampness is a major killer of crickets so I felt the plastic tubes were better as they couldn't eat...
That really depends on the petstore though. The ones near me have vetting procedures for new buyers and ask questions. The one I got my cham from made it compulsery for me to get a book from the shop also and was very knowledgeable and helpful about chameleons, having kept them herself before...
The worms I got with the crickets were cricket larvi and perfectly safe for the chameleon and he loves them.
If they turn into black beatles then they must be the larvi of the beatles.
Beatles are sometimes included as they clean up the bottom of the cricket box by eating all the shed...
Interesting. The only time my chameleon has ever properly hissed at me was when I tried to get him to eat a strawberry, which is bright red.
I regularly wear a red t shirt and have had him settle on me before while wearing them but it is possible he could be more relaxed while wearing other...
Today he tried to move out of his cage twice. Took a little while but he climbed up the open door and just sat there looking around. He went on my arm when I placed it infront of him but I just put him back in his cage as I didn't really have time to take him outside today and it's relatively...
I have 3 of them, all differnet types (i also have 3 Hisbsicus plants).
(from tallest to shortest)
Ficus Benjamina
Ficus Gingseng - (described as Mondo Verde Bonsai Tree).
Ficus 'Exotica' (or that's what it was called when I bought it, leaves are mixture of green and yellow/white)
The Ficus...
I've been trying to take my chameleon outside for short periods of time in an attempt to get him some sun explosure.
Just be careful if you let him go on anything that isn't yourself. I've had him climb on the back of the chair i've been sitting on (like in this picture)
Today he was...
Thanks a lot. Not sure whether to go for them over the flexarium. I'll have to look into it further. I also want to support my local shop if possible, even if it means paying a little bit more. The one I usually buy from is owned by a Zoologist and I think it is a good resource to have. They...
I'm a bit confused by these new laws. There is apparnently a 'phasing out'. I've bought 7 of these standard type bulbs this week and as far as I understand it seems mainly targetted at 100W bulbs and 'frosted bulbs' (which i don't think we use for chameleons)...
I've spent far much more than I need to on the interiors of my cage. If we really wanted to save money we could just buy one large Ficus tree and nothing else and the chameleon probably wouldn't be any less happy. I suspect a lot of people who keep many chameleons probably take this approach or...

I currently have the 38 Gallon Flexarium (got from local exotic pet shop) and plan to upgrade to the 100 Gallon one in a couple of months. The only problem i've had with it so far is I broke one of the zips the day I got it but this probably...

I just got my my guy in May and he is quite adorable.
Don't think I should get anything else until I leave home and can guarentee I will be living in a place that allows pets for the foreseeable future. Not sure what I can do if that isn't possible next year. Maybe buy house...
