You could automate your water and not feed your cham for the week while you are away. If you have an adult cham that is otherwise healthy, there shouldn't be any ill effects. Weighing this up against the chance of over supplementing, over feeding and various other variables caused by putting...
Their spray isn't harmful to humans and I don't know about chameleons but I'd be a bit doubtful it is terribly powerful.
I had some of these which I bought as pets rather than feeder but they died fairly quickly. I blame the recent weather combined with where about I kept them for their deaths...
Ok. you have the same feeder options as me then.
Firstly, cockroaches will freak anyone out, especially in this country where you generally don't come across them. You have this pet already and you need to sort out how you're going to feed it.
Live food is the only feasible option for...
Thank you for this information, both from the OP and other people who replied. I have noticed the prices of Vieled Chameleons as well as the price of some of the feeders quoted by US contributors has been out of line with what I have seen around here. I actually think you could have sold some of...
What hygrometer are you using to measure your humidity? Where is it placed in your cage? How many live plants do you have? What do you have at the bottom of your cage? How big is your cage?
Probably you need to learn to be discrete and store/hide your feeders in places where your other family members don't know/care they exist. My sister got really freaked out when I put put a substantial quantity of locusts in a glass terrarium, easily visible from outside of my room. She...
Can someone provide a link to a website showing the type of bulb used so I can get a better idea what is being talked about?
The UVb Tube I currently use claims to to be 6,500K

70 L does sound like an awful lot of water. I have a friend who used to work as a plumber and he said that they used to use 'Henry' Hoovers to suck out water. It might be possible to attach such a thing to a pipe going to the bottom and suck out water to maintain the life of your drainage even...
I have to say, out of all the enclosures I've seen on here this is one of the ones that's impressed me the most. Not many people seem to do planted bottoms in mesh cages and the whole thing seems to be thought out really well.
Yesterday, I thought I didn't have enough space for something like...
It's possibly just my luck but I also have never found a plant titled 'Pothos' in any Garden Centre around here or Ikea. There were a few things titled 'Ivy' without a specific name that I thought might be Pothos but nothing titled Golden Pothos, Devil's Ivy or Pothos. I will give B&Q a look...
Is he shedding his skin?
From 5-6 months onwards, my guy has eaten practically nothing for a week or two when he sheds his skin. Only the occasional insect here and there. He wont refuse a wax worm but hardly ever give him them anyway. The difference in shedding/hunger strike happened fairly...
Appears to be really friendly. I never would have thought it possible to that extent but this is the first I've known of this species.
I'll have to look into these creatures in a few years time if I have space to expand my collection.
My original sollution was just to get smaller crickets before they have wings and make noise. I was kept awake all night by some of the crickets I got..... The so called 'silent' brown crickets really aren't 'silent'.
Then my chameleon went off crickets and I mainly feed him locusts now, which...
It didn't seem to be restricted to the top of the soil and not attached to anything in the way I would expect fungus to be. The hydro ball/fertilizer theory sounds the most likely to me. I haven't re potted or re soiled any of these plants so there is no reason why there wouldn't be such things...
Thanks to everybody for the info. I'll try and replant my hibiscus plants in new pots with some form or organic soil at the weekend. Not sure I'll manage that soon but it is my goal.
Put thermometer on top of UV light between the reflector and the light and measured 50.5 C (123 F) after being on there for about 1/2 hour. Started around 35 and went up very slowly. This was at the end of the day after the UV had been on for the best part of 12 hours.
I've not noticed the...
I haven't re-potted the plants, yet.
I believe this is probably the most likely explanation. I don't know if they are potentially harmful to the chameleon but either way I should probably re-pot them and I think better soil might do the plants some good anyway.
Yes it is. But on what basis do you make that statement? Have you ever taken temperatures and got reading's too high?
I'll actually move one of my thermometers to touch the UV light and see what it says.
I thought about this with my previous one with my first chameleon cage. I remember...
