Yes he does, but towards the evening I always find him hanging out closer towards the other side of the enclosure(the just UV side). I assumed this would be good at recreating nature since at the end of daylight the heat decreases before the UV stops for the day. Makes me wish I had a way to...
Sorry, I didn't explain properly. My linear tube is diagonally across the top of the enclosure with one end near the heat lamp, and the other end at the farthest point away from it. So there's uvb near his heat source, and uvb in other locations as well. I've had this setup because both options...
On the link summoner provided it says this...
"When exposed to UVB at wavelengths between 290 - 315nm, this provitamin D, held within the cell membrane, is converted very rapidly indeed to previtamin D3 and accumulates in the skin...Previtamin D3 is then isomerised (transformed by a...
"If we separate our UVB tubes from our heat lamps, then this is an unnatural state of affairs, which requires the reptile to make a choice it would not need to make in the wild."
The only problem I have with this statement is that the animal would come across different UV levels in nature...
Is he sleeping properly with the the light you have on at night. Even though a lot of those advertise 'very little visible light', its possible he still sees it.
I would try roaches, but for some reason my guy will not cup feed. I took a mealworm dish, and put a couple crickets in it with their back legs removed. My cham just sat there watching them run around, and would go else where to hunt. If anyone could tell me a good place to get snails, at least...
I purchased the hornworms because my guy refuses mealworms and supers. Only likes crickets. Which is fine because I gut load them well, but thought variation wouldn't hurt anything. Xanthoman have you tried feeding the moths(aren't they pretty large moths)? I haven't tried silkies yet however.
Actually, he only had one the first day, and enjoyed it. But hasn't gone for any since then. He sees them and watches their movement(with calm colors), but doesn't seem to want to eat them. I thought he wasn't hungry either but, he snatched a cricket as the hornworm was within striking distance...
Just thought I'd let you know my Jackson (which has completely ignored mealworms and superworms) went straight for a hornworm and seemed to enjoy it very much. If you have a jackson, order them. Got mine from Great Lakes today.
Am I mistaken?
It looks like your drip pan at the bottom of the cage doesn't have any kind of covering. If she falls into that, she's not going to be able to get out. I'd put some mesh over it.
I was researching ways to decorate and create different levels within my cham's cage. And came across the idea of using two magnets.(Didn't want to hang things from the top) If this works, I could see it being very practical.
One magnet would be glued to a decoration with the magnet flush...
Does anyone know any good places that sell different types of feeders. Something other than the usual crickets and mealworms. Anyone know where to find hornworms, waxworms, etc?
Yes, I'm aware I can order online, but I live in an apartment and would prefer to buy in store.
I wasn't expecting my cham to be hiding in it. Just thought it would look more natural and help stabilize humidity. I would imagine the grass could be placed on top of a screen, and any excess water would drain from the soil, but the soil will still retain enough moisture to aid humidity.
and...
