The big guy pay's a visit

Hi Benny, they can endure near freezing conditions during bad weather spells. Normally, we have snow on the mountains every year. Damaranum are a little less tolerant of low temps.

    Dull colors?

Hi. As much natural sunlight as possible and a good diet normally does the trick. Also keep in mind that certain individuals are not as brightly colored as their peers.

Ahh! Now we are talking about one of my most beloved creatures. Cordylus cordylus (the Cape Girdled Lizard) is fairly abundant in the local mountains and is a very striking fellow! They have pitch black dorsal pigmentation here on the Cape Peninsula. The photo attached is not mine.

The common gecko in my area is Afrogecko porphyreus, but I have seen a smaller species, the Striped Dwarf Leaf-toed Gecko (Goggia lineata) with different habits that I am not acquainted with. They are tiny (about 4cm) and must be close to the smallest gecko in Sub Saharan Africa. Am busy...

No, the different species have developed in their own areas and I am moving off to the Southern Cape within a week or two to hopefully find and photograph a few of the other Bradypodion sp. (I travel around in a RV) I am presently in B. pumilum country.

Went out in the howling wind with the camera today but the chameleons had more sense than to be hanging around in the bad weather.

No, I did not find any hibernacula. I think the snakes were pretty active already when we moved into the house on Wortley Rd. where all the snakes were found. I did not spend a winter there. My parents emigrated to Canada but my dad did not get the post he was offered, so we came back again. I...
