Silkworms are great feeders, but for a chameleon it is best to mix up their diet and keep many different feeders for variety-not just one staple. I'd say keep as many different feeders and keep mixing them up everyday for your cham. I think this will also help keep your cham's appetite up.
congratulations!! I tried once and ran out of chow..boy do they eat a ton. I'm waiting until the mulberry trees come in to start again. Congrats though! I'm sure your chams will be thanking you :)
make sure they have enough food and water (but not standing water because they will drown themselves) and also make sure they are in a well ventilated area. When crickets die, they emit a gas that will kill other crickets, so once one dies they all start unless you have some ventilation. Also...
If you want a good feeder with a lot of calcium, I think silkworms are best. Also, as long as you are supplementing correctly, you don't necessarily need a feeder with a ton of calcium. What is your supplement schedule look like now?
I have never tried cup feeding. I usually hand feed the first one or two feeders that I give my chameleon for the same reason you do and then free range the rest. I choose to free range the feeders because I feel like its more natural and gives them exercise as well as helps them build muscle...
It sounds okay to me. Your cham may just be a little stressed because the reptisun is so much longer than the coil bulb. Maybe hes just getting used to the change?
The warm water should help. When I first started spraying my cham(using a fertilizer sprayer) he did not like it at all. I think it was mostly because the sprayer is a big scary black thing. He is starting to get used to it now and even drinks off of the leaves while it is next to him. I think...
