I just got my veiled from Lost Lake today... I felt like a kid waiting for Santa, I even had trouble sleeping last night, how pathetic is that!
So anyways I was imagining all sorts of horrible accidents that could have befallen my little guy, but he seems to be doing great!
He crawled...
Beautiful discus!! I have an Amazon biotope tank setup up right now, and would love to try discus in a bigger tank. Now I just have a breeding pair of angels, cories, neons, etc. That is a great setup... do you use a CO2 system for those lush plants?
I love the setup!! Are the vines you have in the cages the fake, flexible ones? I love the aluminun screen cages, the chams are so much easier to see. Where did you get yours and how big is the one on the right? I will have to upgrade mine in few months I'm sure... (if my cham survives my...
Why buy? I have tons of "feeders" running around my neighborhood...
Maybe I could cancel my order for my veiled and get your komodo dragon instead... would he do ok for a while in a 30gallon reptarium?? ;)
Awesome info guys. Thanks so much! Keeping my crickets alive for months was my main concern, so I will definately follow some of these guidelines. It make take a bit more work but it sure beats going to the petstore once a week.
Hey thanks, everyone. I am very excited, and glad I made a good choice.
And reptimom, I would love to get a hold of some rudis one day... I am already getting obsessed and don't even have a chameleon yet... My wife will hate me!
I will surely post pics tomorrow, if the suspense doesn't...
Well, I had heard repeatedly that starting with a montane species probably isn't the greatest idea, especially since I can only keep humidity between 55 and 60%. So that's the main reason, also it was hard to find CB rudis in a reasonable price range.
My order of 1000 crickets is due to arrive tomorrow. I figure my new veiled will eat quite alot, in addition to the other reptiles I have.
I was just in the garage setting up a 10 gallon aquarium for them, and thought, holy crud, I am getting 1000 crickets! This may not be big enough.
I...
He is a four month old veiled, I thought about getting the cheaper 2 month old but heard they can be a bit more sensitive, probably not a good choice for my first cham...
He did have some amazing WC veileds... wish those were in my budget!
I just wanted to post a thank you to everyone of you that helped me out. These are BY FAR, the best forums I've been a part of. The help has been truly amazing. So thanks again all, I hope I will be able to contribute as I advance in the hobby.
Anyways, because of all of you, I ordered my...
Thanks...
Awesome info Brad... I had actually run into your blog last night during my search for veiled information.
And ken, herpmist looks great! What a system, that may not be in the ol' budget right now, but I am sure I will get one later on...
Just a few more Q's-
About that...
Now I'm thinking a veiled chameleon would be right for be based on the humidity post I posted, in which a few, including you Brad, said that it is not best to start with a montane species.
I checked out Lost Lake chams and they have a Turquiose X Sunburst Veiled for 110.00 with shipping. That...
Very good ideas thanks! I will tinker with the cage to avoid sticking holes in the screen, but since I am using small wires, it doesn't do too much damage.
I did the background because there is actually a mirror behind the cage attached to the dresser! So I had to pick the lesser of two...
Thank you so much... humidity was really worrying me. My lizard-less setup stays around 50% reaching 70% with mistings, so that should be fine for most any chameleon right?
I am thinking of a Jacksons or veiled or maybe even rudis. in case anyone has noticed, Sorry about all the posts...
I am very worried about creating the right amount of humidity and have been shopping/researching humidifiers, misters, etc for the past few hours straight. Doing some research on previous posts in these forums yielded this quote from The Chameleon Company:

If your mist system is...
