I guess there are two schools of thought on this subject. Some on here mist for long periods of time and swear by it.
Personally...I don't think it's necessary and I explain why in other threads. :)
Yea...I know. People kinda go nuts with the water.
I try to remind people that chameleons are 1. not aquatic, 2. the screen cage purpose is defeated if never dries out because of constant misting/watering/dripping, 3. it doesn't rain 4-5 times a day anywhere in the world consistantly and...
You are looking at a super duper...one of a kind....fantastic...unbelievable...amazing... piece of PVC bottom of a cage with wood trim to keep stray water in. :)
I thought of all kinds of drainage ideas and such...and it was just easier to trim the bottom. There shouldn't be so much water to...
It's a Sunbeam ultra sonic cool mist. No fogger in the bowl...it's just a feeding bowl for his waxworms that is up there for about an hour. It's just the humidity fog rising up from it when it went on.
If you decide to do the trim...make sure you seal the trim really good a second or third...
I can't see too well in that pic. It would seem to me that a few zip ties which take 20 seconds to put on...would be easier than taking the whole cage to the garage, cutting and fitting dowels and then installing them for vines.
That wood cage you have is really nice...did you make it?
What is the purpose of 5 minutes of spraying water 4 times a day? Humidity? Drinking water?
These guys aren't aquatic...it doesn't rain that much in the wild anywhere in the world...and they also get moisture from their prey.
If you want humidity...then get a humidifier. Water problem...
Do you have that much water collecting on the bottom? I trimmed the bottom pvc with L-shaped wood trim and aquarium silicon. It keeps the water in, and if it doesnt' dry out enough, I just paper towel the excess.
Is the chameleon in a 10 gallon aquarium? Not good.
Also...Be careful what the pet store tells you. Probably 1% of pets stores know anything...especially with chameleons. You did the right thing coming here. Do your reading.
I would also suggest Rep-Cal Herptivite, Rep-Cal Calcium...
It's not really mounted. It sits on the humidifier and is braced by a couple of boards at the bottom which aren't attached to anything. It stays up there by itself. You have the option of mounting it, but remember you have to take it off every time you refill your humidifier.
Yes...he...
Can you site me the code section, reg or case law on that? It's Kalifornia...so I wouldn't be surprised...however it's an insect which is native and these things are normally regulated by Agricultural regs. Agricultural regulations are not usually specific for anything which isn't directly...
The bowl you guys are looking at is his waxworm feeding cup which goes up there for about an hour and then back to the bottom for storage.
It's just the way the vines were set up that the fog from the humidifier is going into it. I didn't plan it that way and no real amount of water collects...
I really liked the way they looked...especially the Isairy Mifidy "first choice" breeder from the Kammers.
That is an ultra sonic humidifier, which has a 3" pvc running vertical to the top of the cage and then elbowed over with holes and the open end. The fog just rolls down...works great...
Once in a while, but most of the time, they will go drink and then climb up a plant and then to the screen to be eaten. It's not that much water.
The plant in the pic is new and doesn't have a pot bowl yet. My other plants have water catch bowls under their pots. If there's alot of water...
