You may be better off with putting live plants in the cage, instead of fresh cuttings. I do not see much of a problem with what you are doing, other than maybe stressing him out everytime you replace the branches when the leaves fall off :) Can't get enough of the lime green though, he's a stud.
When I first got my chameleon, he hated me... I couldn't get near the cage to even mist without him wanting to rip me to shreds! I just ignored him for a while, let him grow a bit, and eventually started to handle him. Give him time and he will get to know you are only there to care for him...
