    HELP ME! Silkworms dying!

Welcome! FWIW I have been feeding them as a staple to both my Chameleons every other day each week for the last 6 months and they are both growing like weeds.

    HELP ME! Silkworms dying!

... taken from more than one site as a result of a Google search, so I must disagree with you RyU.... According to many, including Anole expert A. Lanolis, Silkworms are naturally the healthiest insect you can feed your pet. Silkworms are low in fat content and are a high source of Calcium...

    HELP ME! Silkworms dying!

I think that you may be getting silkworms confused with waxworms, which are high in fat and nothing else - Silkworms are an absolutely excellent feeder and are one of the best staples that you can give to a chameleon.

    He suddenly hates me!

Sorry Laura, but many male veileds go through this as they get older, they are generally the most antisocial of all chameleon species, although some do improve the further they go into adulthood. My male Veiled, Ziggy, is about 14 months old now and he is not a people lizard at all - he...

Leaving town for 5 days - do I have to hire a sitter?

Just taking of you going out of town out of the equation for a moment, I would seriously recommend removing the substrate as soon as you can in any event, it can cause impaction if ingested accidentally and can be a breeding ground for mould, bacteria and RIs.

Leaving town for 5 days - do I have to hire a sitter?

I live in the UK so obviously cannot comment on whether this might be available in the USA, but certain reptile establishments/breeders offer a "holiday home" service, whereby they will house, feed and basically take care of your chameleon whilst you are away for a price of about £5.00 per day...

    Enclosure size

I am a fan of the Reptibreeze - I have an XL for my 14 month old male Veiled. I didn't move him into it until a couple of months though, as they are very large cages.

    UVB Meters

My breeder is a very kindly soul and occasionally lends me his UVB meter so that I can check my lighting. They are very expensive however, so unless you were keeping multiple cages I wouldn't think that it would be cost effective to buy one.

    Spat out cricket

Hmmmmm, that's an interesting theory..... I gutload the crickets with a selection of dark, leafy green vegetables, watercress, rocket, romaine lettuce, grated carrot, apples, oranges and dried mixed fruit. The hoppers have exactly the same.

    Spat out cricket

Hi everyone, just a quick query. My 5 month old Ambilobe has, on two separate occasions now, fired at a cricket, chewed it for about 5 seconds and then spat it out. This first happened about a month ago and then again today. The crickets are not too large for him and were dusted in...

    Yellow coloring inside chams mouth

Sorry to resurrect a ridiculously old thread, but this has just set my frantic mind at rest (you've gotta love this forum!!) My 5 month old Panther yawned this afternoon and I was shocked to see that the inside of his mouth was yellow - I was panicking thinking that he had mouth rot or...

    Nylon Tights... and grass

Not for substrate no.... however... I have a very large 1 gallon plastic container at the bottom of both my cages, to catch water from the drippers that I have going all day. I use nylon tights to encase the containers completely, which stops my feeder insects falling in and drowning, as well...

    Dusting Issue..

Good idea. I spoiled my male veiled when I first got him and started feeding him hoppers, after which he would not touch crickets. At all. I went to see my breeder and he told me that a healthy chameleon will not starve itself to death and would eventually eat the crickets if he became...

    Dusting Issue..

If you leave him for a few days, hunger will get the better of him and he will eat dusted insects - believe me!

    eye swollen shut, please help

I cannot stress enough how important it is for your chameleon to see a vet. Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you honestly cannot afford to take him to be treated then you really do need to seriously consider as to whether or not you should be keeping an exotic animal. As living...

    eye swollen shut, please help

You really do need to get your chameleon to a reptile vet without delay - that eye does not look good and I think needs urgent attention, if his sight is not to be at risk. Some vets will come to payment arrangements with you so you do not have to pay all in one go. He really does need to be...

    Zoomed repti breeze

I only purchased an XL Reptibreeze for my Veiled when he was about 10 months old - they are very large and a small chameleon will struggle to find food in such a huge enclosure. Having said that, as Craig has said, you could buy one and section half of it off, to make it smaller until your...
