Hey all. Zoey has been doing so good. The calcium supplement has been really helping her out. So far she has laid 11 eggs. She dropped 5 yesterday alone over about an hour or so. She has refused to use the laying bin and insists on using the basking platform.
She has been a constant dark...
Hi Maddieremington,
Yes Zoey has been laying eggs. They are not fully formed because she is recovering from MBD. Her body is basically (as the vet described) re absorbing the eggs in order to get the calcium back into her body. So far she has laid 4. She has not interest in the laying bin...
Since she is not interested in the laying bin, I just have a deep bowl in there for her just in case. She kinda walks on it if she is hunting, but seems to prefer her platform. That is were she laid the 2 eggs. Maybe she is just wierd.
I am gonna have another fecal done hopefully tomorrow or...
Ok. It went great at the vets office this morning. He is impressed at how much better Zoey is looking. She is now on liquid calcium drop for the next 2 months to help get her strength back up.
So glad that she is doing better and will recover.
Ok so I put a large bowl of sand in her recovery tank. She kinda walked around in it, but really doesn't show much interest. I just went to check on her and found another egg on the ground, but next to the bowl.
Any thoughts? Do some females just not use laying bins?
I will get that laying bin in her tank asap. The vet isn't in today so I will have to wait till tomorrow morning to bring her in to see what the heck is up.
Thanks all.
Sorry camimom,
I should have been more clear. The parasite was causing inflamation in her intestions and the vet put her on Albon to treat both of the symptoms at the same time. Some other members were concerned that she would have a poor reaction to the medication and persistently requested...
Hi Chase,
Yes she has had those bow legs for a while. That is why I had thought she had MBD. I am hesitant about the laying bin because it could just become a breeding ground for the coccidia until I know it is cleared up. Right now Zoey is in a 10 gallon tank just so she has more room to...
Hey all. So the strangest thing happened this morning. My mom was checking on Zoey and suddenly made the comment that her urates looked "white, but awfully round". I had a look and it was a tiny little egg!!!!!
She is between 6 and 8 months. I was under the impression, from what the vet said...
I used to work for both PetSmart and PetCo. I agree that they do not offer the correct training for people working in the pet dept. The 'vet certified' thing they offer on their animals is another sham. It doesnt have any weight to it. Even the one store that I worked at had a Banfield Hospital...
Hey everyone. Today is Zoey's last day of treatment. She has greatly improved since over these past few days. Her voracious appetite has returned and she can't seem to eat enough crickets. I have moved her from the little critter keeper to a 10 gallon tank. I did buy a fixture so her uvb light...
Hey all. Sorry it has been a while. Zoey has been responding very well to her medication. The swelling in her belly is going down and she has gained a lot of her mobility back. This is the second week of her treatment. After this coming weekend she will be off her meds for a week and then back...
Hey all. I just finished cleaning all of the little cages and things that Zoey has come into contact with. She happily ate a small hornworm yesterday and today she ate 4 wax worms. For some reason she is just wanting softer prey...which is fine by me as long as she is eating something. I will...
No eggs showed up on the x-ray. I will try to get a picture of it today. She is too small and young to be ovulating. I did ask him about that on our first visit.
He prescribed Albon for her. He felt that since she has so many of the coccidia parasites in her that this will work best in...
Oh wow. I hope that we are able to get rid of them. I will ask the vet about putting her on Ponazuril. He did mention to clean her cages with a bleach solution. I am thinking that my poor cham might have gotten these from a previous animal that I had. My first chameleon was from...
So I have more news from my awesome vet. Zoey has a parasite called Coccidia. He said that she most likely had it from the breeder that I got her from. He said that when and if I get another one he wants to see them right away.
Tomorrow I will pick up some medicine and get her feeling better...
