Hi all. Dolly is finally home and not looking too bad considering. Hopefully i'll post a pic of her stitches later and you can see it ain't that pretty! She drinking lots and eating as well as the vet and I are hopeful that she can get through this. Thanks for all your advice everyone :)
Glad things are ticking along ok. Yeah our vet refused to give over 2 injections per 3 days or so as that seems to be the maximum dose for that time period. i know that keeping them well hydrated is crucial to prevent the eggs from attaching to the oviduct and becoming 'egg bound'. Our vet...
Just checking up to see how Maui is doing? Dolly went in for surgery today and it seems her right ovary was producing abnormal follicles and eggs which was causing the problems and would have eventually killed her. The vet is pleased with how the surgery went but can't give me any guarantees...
Hi guys - just to keep you updated. Dolly went in for surgery at lunchtime and the vet is pleased with how it went. Apparently her left ovary was producing eggs as normal (hence the ones she was laying) but her right had become abnormal through a low grade infection which caused it to produce...
I'm so sorry that you don't have a good herp vet near you - we are truely blessed to have one 30 minutes from where we live that looks after all the reptiles for a local zoo. Please keep me updated on Maui's progress - i'm thinking of you all :)
I'm so sorry to hear that someone else is going through the same thing - it truely is horrendous. Our little girl has been having oxytocin injections for the past few days as xray's showed she is packed full of eggs still after laying 27 already. She is going into surgery tomorrow to have them...
Thank you so much - you guys have been a real source of support throughout all this. She has received another maximum dose of oxytocin today and only passed 2 eggs as a result. Vet looking at surgery in the morning - i'm praying with every ounce of my being that she makes it through this - i...
Another update. Woke this morning to find she had been sick and was cowering in the corner. Rushed her to vet who said she still seems strong so he's going to try oxytocin again before surgery as last resort. Seems you were right Kinyonga - he said that there seems to be a lot of follicles...
Thanks for replying. The vet never specified whether the eggs were round or oval but i'm guessing he would have said if they were follicles and not ready to be laid (he's the consultant vet for a local zoo that keep exotics). The vet wasn't available when we collected her and i can't speak to...
Hmmmmm i'm wondering since the rocks are white they might look shiny and almost wet in some lights. Our cham used to lick shiny things and it turned out she thought it was water catching the light. We let her lick water from a small teaspoon now and the behaviour has stopped so it seems to have...
Further to my last post, Dolly laid 19 eggs at home but still seemed to be lumpy with some more. We took her to the vet who ended up giving her an x ray showing she was still full of 'em and gave her a calcium/oxytocin jab to get things moving. Two oxytocin doses later and an overnight stay she...
Thanks Kinyonga for the reply. She had filled in the hole and climbed up the branches to get out of the bin herself!! She ate and drank after she left although today she seems to still be a bit lumpy so we have put her back in the laying bin. Spoken to a vet who wants to see if she will dig and...
Another update -Dolly started filling in her hole last night and so we took her out to give TLC etc and she laid another egg straight into my fiancee's hand!!! We put her back in the laying bin and she continued to dig/lay for the rest of the night (including a little sleepy in the early hours)...
Excellent, thanks very much. Any ideas how long it may take for all the eggs to come out? She's been bum down for abour 1 and half hours now. I can't wait until it's over - i've got such a headache and i want to be sick i've been so worried about her!
Hi all
So since yesterday we have put her in a large bin with plenty of damp substrate (about a foot) and a light for heat. She has been digging since 9am this morning and the past hour has just stop and is laying face down in her hole. She is still breathing but isn't trying to dig anymore. Im...
