Bless you - hope she gets on ok at the vets. My cham just passed from a respiratory infection - they can be easy to treat if caught in time and sounds like you may just have done so. Make sure you keep her at optimum temps when you get her home - it will help speed up her metabolism and get the...
It varies - some chams go every day - others every few days - really depends on how often they eat and what's normal behaviour for them? If you see a change in these habits it may be sign of an hydration or impaction problem.......
When it gets hotter i tend to swap for a lower wattage bulb so it doesn't get too hot in the viv - keep measuring the basking site and ambient temps to get an idea of which wattage is right. However, being in the UK getting too hot isn't something that happens very often!!
Chams do seem to have delicate egos so if they take a tumble they seem to be grumpy with everyone for a few days!!! Normally if your cham was angry his colours would be darker rather than lighter. How did he fall and does he do it often? Might be an underlying problem.....
I would say if you are worried about his night time temps it may be worth investing in a infrared heat bulb to use at night which will emit heat and not light so not disturb his sleep pattern. However it is healthy for chams to have a drop in temps at nighttime and it may be worth just keeping...
Hi,
It can be difficult to determine if they are definitely gravid or not - sometimes they look huge sometimes not! Keep an eye on her colouring too - normally gravid females will have a much darker colouring - trying searching for female gravid colouration on Google so you get an idea of the...
Thanks Jannb - i remember you offering me some helpful advice when she was laying her first clutch of eggs :)
I never realised how empty life is without a cham in it - i am so madly in love with them!!
Thank you both for your kind words. Laurie i may send Miss Lily a private message in the hope i can reach out to someone who has felt the same. I have to face going to work this morning and i have a huge photo of her on my desk - i'm petrified at the thought of seeing it.
R.I.P Dolly monster...
Hi guys
I haven't posted for a long time but i feel this is the only place i can share something like this. My darling darling Dolly passed away this weekend after suffering a respiratory infection that got the better of her.
My whole life is broken into pieces and i just wanted to die with...
Hi - it's quite common for chams to go on food strike every now and then and as your little guy gets older the number of items he eats will slow down too. Chams can also be fussy eaters - they like to have a variety in their diet and will sometimes go on food strike if they get bored. Try to get...
Awwww Miss Lily your chams are so gorgeous!! I love watching mine walk too - it's a proper little strut! Loving the weather at the moment - so is Dolly :)
Yay - well done her! 30 eggs sounds like a good clutch size for it to be all of them. If she covered them all up and left the site then she would have finished. I've still get my cham's recently laid infertile eggs - i wanna keep them as i feel bad about throwing them away - she worked so hard...
We've always used it to feed to waxies so they are a nutritious treat! They gobble it up, as do the locusts and crickets. It's the purest form of nutrition on the planet - and really good for treating allergies as well i think.....
I can completely sympathise with how stressful this can be. Our cham laid her first clutch a couple of weeks ago and it was the most horrendous thing i've ever been through!! She did get into difficulty and ended up being operated on to remove some malformed eggs and her ovaries, but she's doing...
Hi - does sound likes she's testing out her digging feet before she gets started for real! Laying bin ideally need to be at least 8 inches deep - it's surprising how deep they can go. Like Miss Lily's cham, we tried to trick our little girl into thinking she could dig 'down' into her tank but...
