We actually just moved him into a new aquarium yesterday. It seems to be a lot better for him than the screen cage that we had him in initially (it's the only thing we had laying around at the time)
You have anoles as well. Would you mind posting a picture of your set-up?
I figured I should post an update.
The little guy is doing well and enjoying his new home. He's eating/drinking and looks so much better. Thanks to all of you for the advice!
He seems to be doing fairly well today. He's been climbing around all over the screen cage I have him in. I tried to offer him some food yesterday but he wasn't interested so I'll try again today when I get home from work.
Unfortunately I'm not able to provide a permanent home for him as we...
Thank you! I really knew nothing about these little guys before tonight but it helps that they're somewhat similar to the care of a chameleon.
He seems to be doing a bit better. I put a water dish in with him that he's been drinking from and a fake vine that he's currently stretched out on...
Well I definitely won't be feeding it to any of my chams.. just want to try to save the little guy.
I didn't realize how big the picture was until it uploaded haha sorry for any confusion.
That's what I was thinking initially. I do have a screen cage that's about 2 ft high. Should I try to move him into that or keep him in the box for now? From my understanding they're aboreal?
Hi Guys,
My boyfriends father found this lizard in a warehouse that may have come in on a shipment from Texas (most likely) or Tokyo.
It looks like some sort of Anole to me but I'm really not sure as it's severely dehydrated and pretty brown right now. He's got an injured tail and one of...
Your Chameleon - veiled chameleon, male, i've had for 5 days
Handling - rarely, and if i do hold him its only for like 3 minutes
Feeding - i feed him dusted crickets. 10-15 a day. and in the morning and when i come back from school. What are you gutloading with? Crickets need to be gutloaded...
I'm really sorry to hear about your loss and it's terrible that you're having such a hard time with the seller.
I know it can be difficult but what you might want to do is get a necropsy done on the baby to see what health problems it had that lead to it's death. This could shed some light on...
Great thread!
It's really important for people to understand how much work owning Chameleons can be. Hopefully this thread will inspire people to really prepare themselves before taking the plunge and purchasing their first Cham.
Thanks for posting this.
From my experience, silks die off pretty quickly if they run out of food. It's best to keep enough on hand that you'll be able to feed them until you can feed them all off to your chameleons.
Besides, gutloading is really important for your chams, as previously stated.
As previously stated, your chameleon walking like that is completely normal.
As for him not working properly, maybe you should give him a raise.. should increase his morale! Haha
No they have separate enclosures. They each take turns free ranging in a huge ficus tree in the living room.
He's pretty aggressive/territorial so that's why we decided to breed them in the tree instead of his cage. Normally they're not together at all.
Update time!
I didn't get any gravid pictures of her unfortunately as we were trying our best to leave her alone as much as possible.
Now onto the news....
After 25 days we have eggs! Mommy is doing well and sleeping right now. It's amazing how well she packed the soil back down in her hole...
