I noticed that my male pygmy brev has a fresh wound on one of his eye turrets (sp). It's just a tiny scratch, but it looks raw. Any suggestions as to what I could or should do to help this heal?
Hey there... question for all you brev experts: How old do you let young male brevs get before you separate them? I bought 2.2 young brevs, and am just curious. I don't want them to stress, but it's easier right now to keep them all together. Thanks in advance!
Perfect, thanks. That sounds easy enough. Another question, and Julie, maybe you can answer this: the crickets can't climb the plexiglass tank, but I have a feeling the flies will be able to? Any advice on avoiding escapes? I'm sure they are small enough to get thru the slatted top of this...
I just got my first order of fruit flies for my baby brevs. They came in a tall deli-type container filled with string or hemp or something, with goop at the bottom. The flies are swarming throughout. What do I do with them as far as keeping them alive? Do I just keep them in the deli...
Hey guys, question for you.....at 3 wks of age, could you tell males from female brevs? I ordered 1.2, which I think means 1 male, 2 females? It kind of looks like I have 2 males and 1 female though. Tough to tell about the dorsal ridges, and shorter tails for males. Anything in particular I...
Hey gang.....any of you experienced brev owners know the answer to that? I just got a trio of CB young brevs, and they went right to the top of the temporary enclosure I have them in. It's the upper 60's here in Seattle. Think they're just trying to get some extra light? I put them in a 2...
Hi there.....Just wondering if anyone knows of any feeding bowl that could contain pinhead crickets so they can't (or very few of them can) escape into my terrarium? I've seen the exo terra meal worm bowls that have an inward curling lip, but am not sure that would stop a cricket from crawling...
Hey Gang.... I just ordered a trio of juvenile pygmy brevs (not even two months old), and am also ordering crickets for them. I realized that I'm not sure how many pinheads I should order the first time around. For those who have raised neonate brevs, approximately how many crickets do they eat...
I need to read about the amount to feed babies, but I think it's every other day? I'll try the carrot suggestion, and will also get a cup for them. I've never had to feed pinheads, so I'm not familiar with how old they are when they actually start to spring around and jump.
I hadn't thought about crickets growing and hiding, and possibly ambushing young brevs. Thanks for that input. I think these little guys are just over a month old. I'm guessing pinhead crickets are in store... If I put them in a little bowl with an inward facing lip, will that be good enough to...
Hey gang.... Any input from those who have raised neonate brevs would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting 1.2 very young ones from Mike at FLChams. My terrarium is 18x18x24 exo terra. I have it pretty well planted, and am training the creeping fig to climb some of the faux vines. I'll add some...
How long have you had them now, Brad? Are they showing any signs of mating behaviors, or of being gravid? The tank looks awesome. I'll take your tip, and will add more vines to mine as well. Mike at FLChams tells me he'll have some CB young ones later this month, so hopefully I'll finally get...
Morphs
Hi...I used to know this guy who bred all types of corn snakes, and other species that I can't recall. He used to produce some of the most incredible morphs and amazing colors. I think you should keep doing what you're doing, and perhaps eventually you will be able to come up with...
Good question. I put 4 different miniature species of Orchids in my Pygmy Viv. Luckily they're easily removable, and I haven't put the Brev's in yet. Let me know what you find out, and I'll do some more research as well.
The pro's say 1 pygmy cham per 10 gallons. 24x18x18 is just over 30 gallons, so 1.2 would be a healthier ratio. You could try 1.3 if it's heavily planted, and see how it goes. I think 5 chams in that size would be pushing the limit though. Ask around and see what others say. :) Cheers.
Sure thing.....the male is usually smaller, has more of a pattern on him, and his back is much more ridged, or sawtooth-like. His tail is also slightly longer. The females can be larger, plain in color, and have a smooth dorsal ridge. Their tails are shorter. I'll get the link to E-Zine and will...
I'll get some sow bugs and springtails. I hadn't put any in yet because I don't have the chams. I just didn't want any infestation of bugs, not knowing which ones would eat or destroy plants. these little white guys look harmless enough, but who knows. They seem to be staying on one piece of...
