i use merc vapour,(mega-ray). but i dont recommend for beginers, i have many reptiles and dont like having 7 different strip lights. one merc vapour can reach them all. if you only have one reptile it is to much UVB, you will have to position it more than 15" above enclosure. this cuts off a lot...
the cup thing is allright, but you will want to free range a little. i put crix and supers in cup but i free range silkies and hornworms. this helps him keep his targeting abilitys and "leaf-in-the-wind" stance properly honed.
i have a manx, it doesnt seem to bother my cham. i also have a green iguana, it does bother him. i had to move him out of my reptile room because he was constantly stressed. i also got him from petsmart, no offence but he was full of parasites. small glass aquariums are breeding places for most...
i just had a silk worm explosion. in one day they got huge, i ended up feeding about ten to my salamanders. they loved them. infact today i went to feed off a couple more and they ran out and started biting the side of there cage. i have never seen them that enthused about food before. they...
i am lucky in that aspect. my cham will eat anything that moves and some things that dont move( polished rocks in his plant, i had to remove because he tried to eat them. they are fairly large too.) he saw his first giant hornworm and darted across to get it. it was the funniest thing watching...
that happend to my cham, i video taped him and found out he would hang from top of enclosure by one foot. he would come down and hold that leg out like it was cramped or somthing. i took him to get checked out and the vet said he probably strained the ankle joint. i watched closly for a week or...
i have been feeding my cham hornworms and silk worms alot lately. to help with the mild dehydration he had from reptaid. his urate has been runny, but his poo is dark and solid. is this normal? i have also seen him under the dripper with his mouth open letting water drip right into it. his urate...
polyurathane will tend to flake with exessive moisture. i reccomend acrylic. standard screen is used by some but i think a product called petscreen is the most common. i used finish grade pine and poplar on mine. but most wood sealed properly will work fine.
just a heads up, if rocks are too small they might get ingested and become impacted. my yemen tried eating the rocks i put in his plant. i had to replace with larger rocks.
i build custom cages for various types of reptiles, mostly green iguanas. i built two cham enclosures and am making DIY plans for them currently. one is for juvies, 20" round 36" tall, and one for adults 24"x36"x48". the adult one has drainage, the juvie one doesnt currently but i am working on...
when my male veiled was 6-7 months i fed him 20-25 large a day. he would have ate more but you have to be carefull growing to fast can cause problems. he now eats 10 large crix, 3 silkies, 3 supers a day. i am gradualy cutting him back as he gets older. he is now about 8 months old.
does anyone know if it would be all right to feed breeding roaches nonorganic fruits and veg? i don't plan on feeding my cham these roaches, but don't want to kill them. it would be alot cheaper to feed them standard produce. they eat alot more than my crickets. they get only organic pesticide...
i would just like to say thanks to everyone who helped me. i came home today and Morken was the happiest ive ever seen him. he was light green and yellow. he has been dark since i got him, but today i start to worry less. this site kicks a**. to all newbies, if you listen you can't go wrong...
