What an awesome set up. I've had a few beetles. I think they gross me out more than the superworms themselves.
The things we do for our chameleons!
SUCCESS! NO smell
My chams have never been bitten by a superworm. My Sambava will run to his feeding cup when he sees me coming. My Nosy likes to be fed his superworms. I use tongs-no way I'm touching those things.
I thoroughly cleaned the bin and put in new oatmeal as substrate. NO...
The first time my Sambava jumped from a 2 foot shelf to the floor I almost passed out, thinking he killed himself. He just ambled away like no big deal. I was so relieved that I'd read about this kind of behavior to avoid predators. But the first time it happened it still freaked me out.
Some people complain about crickets being smelly. I don't seem to have that problem with mine. It's the 1000 superworms I have that smell NASTY. I have them in a tote. I cut a a hole in the lid and covered that with screen for ventilation. I'm using uncooked oats as a substrate. I offer...
I buy 1000 crickets at a time. I have them on my covered patio, and I live in Tucson. They're in a big tote. I cut a hole in the lid and hot glued screen to the lid for good ventilation. I check the crickets daily and clean the bin once a week. I had to be sure to put the lid on properly...
I've done a search but haven't found the answer to my question. At what temperature is a room too warm for my panther chameleons? We just turned our sun room into my chameleon room. It faces the north and gets tons of light. It has a ceiling fan. We also bought a portable evaporative cooler...
I got a small colony of dubias going. My chams don't seem to be interested in them at all. I put the dubias in a feeder cup but my guys ignore them. I tried just letting the dubias roam around the cage bottom but they hide under the plant saucers and I end up with dead dubias a few days later...
I think this is a really great opportunity-how exciting. I used to be a volunteer docent (teacher) at two different zoos where I handled a boa constrictor. What I told people was the general stuff-how big they got, what they ate, where they lived, etc. You can apply the same info to your...
My Nosy Be apparently did not care AT ALL for the fake chameleon on my monitor. I was very surprised to see him bobbing his head up and down at it. Who knows what he was thinking? Did he really think the fake cham was real? Not wanting to stress him out, I put him back in his cage.
