I would guess 8/12 months because of her size. I bought from an Expo as well and the dude didn't know much about his history. What part of the country are you from?
Strike is over!
My guy went over to his cricket feeder today and had his breakfast just like old times. Ate two good size crickets! I was very relieved. I am not sure if I should give him any more flies or just avoid them for the future. I did order some Phoenix worms to try, he loves wax worms...
My male Jackson tolerates handling but I don't do it very much as it seems to stress him. He is sweet when do take him out for cleaning or some time in the sun. I love this breed but they are require a little more water, watch that temps. are not too high, and go lite on the supplements.
My guy will occasionally sleep on the sides of his enclosure. I find that he gets really stressed if I move him when he is sleeping so I try not to do it.
I keep them chilled and raise them in small batches of approx. 10. I put them in disposable containers from the grocery store, small plastic containers from the produce section or deli. When they hatch I put the group of 10 in the freezer for 90 seconds and then I dump them in the cham cage...
I am buying it new from the store I am not collecting it. I wanted to make sure it was good clean water misting on my boy. I go threw 2 gallons maybe a week so I can afford to buy it. Thanks for the feedback.
I use distilled water in my adult Jackson's enclousre for his humidifier. I use distilled water becuase I have very hard water and even with a water softner tap water leaves white residue on the cage. I have never seen him drink this water, but he may, if he does is this bad for him?
No, got him from a guy who has been setup on the backwall of the building during the last two Expo's. Kind of wish I would have gotten from a better dealer. Live and learn.
Does anyone use these? Reading about them and they sound like they may be a good alternate feeder. Are these ok to use as a staple? Is that practical? Since my guy is on a cricket and roach strike trying to consider other options.
Gave him one fly and he ate it! Little devil still wouldn't eat a cricket. Keep trying and I will get him something better to eat. He is around a year I am guessing, bought him at a expo from a dealer that didn't have much info. I have had him around 2 months and he has done really well until...
My guy loves flies. Only problem is he won't eat anything else now. Working on getting back to crickets. Can try wax worms as a starter for worm introduction. They are small and my guy loves them. After he ate wax worms I was able to transition to horn worms. Remember wax worms are a great only...
Hunger strike continues!
Day 5 and still not eating. Should I give him back the flies to get something in his belly? He was eating crickets and hornworms good before the flies so this is really confusing. Will a simple creature really get that picky over what they eat?
I bought blue bottle flies from mantis place for my Jackson. He absolutely loves them! Only problem is that he loves them too much. He has not eaten anything else since he got the flies, he is on day 3 of his hunger strike. I think he will eat when he gets hungry enough.
Great photo series, thanks for all the details. Can't wait to see it all in place. I am really interested in those lights so it is nice to get a test run to see what you think.
