thanks for the guesses everyone. The cage they are in now is 38 gallons, and it is screened on 3 sides, only the back is glass, so there is plenty of airflow. We have another cage coming with all 4 sides screened.

As a new chameleon owner I made my first mistake right away. I purchased two veil chameleons instead of one (one male, one female), at a pet expo. After reading numerous expert sites, I shortly realized that I had to order a second cage to separate them. It will be here in the next day or two...
